Do I need a license to install air conditioner in nyc?

In Serbia (in whole eu also) installing this unit like in the video is very popular. Here it costs 190$, just for the unit. Recently the law says that you need to have a license for handling the freon gas, so if gas comes out of your unit due to some error or samage or you need to repair/refill the unit you need to have the license for handling the gas. Our law loves the ozone😊

This was a great business to be in, and I did it for a while without ever installing a single unit myself. My approach was simple: I advertised, got the jobs, and handled all the ordering over the phone. Here’s how the pricing worked:

I’d take the cost of the unit and multiply it by 3 to get the total job price.
This covered:
The cost of the unit itself.
The payment for a licensed installer (equal to the unit cost).
My fee (also equal to the unit cost).
For example, if a unit cost $1,000, the total job price was $3,000. Out of that, $1,000 covered the unit, $1,000 went to the installer, and I earned $1,000 for managing everything and advertising. I mainly advertised in magazines and newspapers, which brought in plenty of work without me needing to do any installations. I would arrange the delivery and collect payment, then pay the installer. I am retired now and it is so easy to start this business anyone can do it.

I want to do this on the scale your doing them. I live in Florida and have already successfully installed at least a dozen units. How do I turn this into a “3k a job profit” business?.!?!?!.! Most folks dont want to pay more than about 500 in labor

I love how people talk about what they made on a job… but never talk about all the work it takes to acquire a lead, close and sell a job. All that time costs money so you didn’t really make 3k in 6hrs.

I have started a handyman business here in the panhandle of Florida but I’m worried about the legalities of what I’m allowed to do. I know HOW to install a mini split and such things but how do I know what I’m ALLOWED to do. There’s a lot of gray area and I’m looking for something black and white

Wow, i live un Cancún and the fee for installing mini Split Is $1200 pesos, maintenence also that price...cant imagine paying 12,000 pesos just for install (750 dollars) but hey its a different economy and good for you guy its a tough job that requires a lot of know how.

I'm longtime contractor and have installed a few gas furnaces and some duct runs in the past. A lot of my clients want me to install mini splits (prob because it's summertime) but what is the minimum certification I need to install them? I have passed my city's contractor HVAC and electrical tests but am not certified. Thanks.

Business is good got a brand new f550 for the great gas milage while hauling its great , ford xl f550 equipment boxes and 11ft low profile dump bed spreader gate but can lower with one man the tailgate its sweet truck now one man can dump alot smoother and get materials and no joke not bad gas milage on the diesels i have two super dutys now the f550 gets great milage for its size 12-14 mpg is awesome for this 550 its the 10 speed diesel 6.7 turbo , more power than a 7.3 litter over double the mpg . Those ac work good friend of mine has one , excellent work handyman !

The electrical setting was not quite explained it. There are minisplit now of 1 ton 120 volts, 14 awg wire from the condenser and 16 awg from the evaporator. You can add it to virtually any circuit in the house just like a 15 amps outlet.

Would recommend a flaring tool (to easily shorten the lineset at times) and a micron gauge but great install otherwise! We pressure test all of our AC units and minisplit installs to about 510 PSI to ensure no leaks, then vacuum down the system to about 300 microns and perform a decay test. We also pull schrader cores for faster evacuation, pressurize it to about 10 PSI of refrigerant, pull the hose and replace the valve core, and fully open the refrigerant valve.

Wish I could cut my “looking for lost tools” down to an hour. 🙄😫
