Jordan no doubt obsesses over issues that most viewers would hardly notice, and even if they did, would find hard to articulate. Hell, as a stills shooter I'm still amazed when images move. ;-)

Ok, I hate jump cuts done outside though, although I'm OK with a presenter being edited that way in a studio; I can forgive it, as I'm mostly interested in the information, and am not looking at the uplaod as I would a movie.

I really enjoyed your traditional way of shooting and editing the best! I hate jump cuts! It's hard as an editor and filmmaker to say that while watching the review video I was much more focused on the content than the editing and video. So these things went somewhat unnoticed.

Like many, I assumed this was a video that was rushed out the door for whatever reason.
It looks much less polished.
I suppose 30FPS has some uses like perhaps faster panning certain scenes with unusual lighting, but stick with what has worked.
Cheesy items that other bloggers do are...
Long repetitive intros on each video, like a bad sit com from the 70s.
Dubbing in audio after the fact because of an error or missed point that was thought to be important. (Just do another shot and add it)
Crazy use of fonts.
Crazy use of weird transitions. One or two maybe, never the norm.

Keep up the great work

I am torn between what is more disturbing.... Jordan in bathrobe or the jump cuts. —seriously jump cuts drive me nuts.

A few jump cuts are fine. Too many are too many. ;-) Maybe use a few soft cuts or even morph cuts to get around flubs in long takes without being so jarring. Don't go full Godard.

I have to say the only thing I found really irritating were the jump cuts; the vanishing Loons were particularly distracting. I quite liked the varied transitions; if you did the same ones in every video it would really annoy me, but occasionally they're nice :) I think that's probably the rule for me: Moderation. The only other thing I found distracting was the somewhat random colour tint, which was particularly noticeable on Chris, he was moving all over the magenta<>green continuum; that colour instability I'd like to see less of.

Don't generally care about shutter speeds

I bet if you’d said what you were doing there would have been far more comments about shutter speed !
Instead you have “real” reactions - also an open and honest self assessment.
I’d not really appreciated (as in noticed) the effort you were putting into these reviews (etc) ...
and that has to be a good thing as they look natural, smooth and effortless.

If it is just a interview, I don't need to see the screen or care about the distractions. If this is a movie or demonstration those distraction would be annoying. This content did not deem a the better quality and even 480 is fine. The robe was also disturbing, I don't need to see that again.

I really dislike the jump cuts. It was the first thing I noticed and reduces my perceived amount of care that you put into the video. That said, I'll still watch all your vids if you decide to use them. Dont love blog style either but that's a personal preference.

Jordan, you're a pro and wanted to keep the standards high. If you did the survey on pro videographer sites, I think the results would be very different. I hate jump cuts as well--- it seems like a hurried production result.

@hooked4lifeca - 03.10.2019 17:02

Hate jump cuts and I go to extreme lengths in my fly fishing videos to avoid them. I don't obsess over 24 fps vs, 30 fps, or even 60 fps as sometimes I need to bring in some slow mo, after the fact, so the higher frame rates work for me. I would bet that the average viewer really doesn't notice high frame rates or high shutter speeds. A person probably has to be 'in the business' to really notice those things.

I've played with different transitions and rarely did I end up thinking that they added anything over the standard fades and dissolves.

Jordan, your videos alway had good production values and editing, so if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't feel the need to change a thing.

Please no jump cuts. If it were up to me, I'd stick with 24FPS, but that ship has sailed, so I can live with that. I don't like transitions, but as long as you guys have pretty much decided to go that route, why not go retro. Wipes anyone? I agree fast shutter speeds are distracting in certain situations. So in summary, I can sort of live with everything else but please no jump cuts. The one thing that that I enjoy most (other than the content) in dpreview is the long takes.

Well, I noticed all of the « experiments » but didn’t comment on them, in part because I thought it was related to the camera reviewed, and in another part because I won’t complain for imperfections. At the time I forgot the video was from the GH5 and not 90D.
Jordan, your intuition is right though, the video felt a bit lacking quality wise, compared to the others. :p

The important thing is that you don't change your content and the way you present things..just feel free to experiment and test new ways of shooting but as long as the content and the overall point of view that you give us stays the same, you have nothing to worry about! Keep the 24 frames though..hahah

I noticed the high shutter speed and honestly I noticed 30fps both of those things make the motion look way too smooth and fake in my opinion, there’s a reason 24fps has been the golden standard (minus slow mo) for video. It looks the most natural to the eye. Jump cuts are not that bad if it’s in a studio environment and no motion in the background but I feel like it’s only to cover up mistakes anyway it would be better to just do it in one take.

Honestly, I watch so many things that were shot with 30fps on a daily basis. I will never find 30fps to be "strange" or worthwhile to comment. 24fps is just a carry over from film. It is neither better or worse.

Most people today do not really pay much attention to the production quality itself, what is important is probably the content, presentation and of course audio quality.
So really, just keep doing what you always been doing and I think there should be no real issue forward.

I didn't quite notice the faster shutter speed (though that you mention and show it, I do hate it), but I did notice the new fun transitions (jump cut is a much different story). I personally don't mind your videography style for what you have done all these years, in fact I prefer it as the main goal (being informative) is achieved with little to no distractions. Newer camera/gear reviewers tend to shoot indoor with "fancy" room set up with colour LEDs in the background, near-perfect lighting equipment.... and in the end they look virtually the same. Not to say they're bad in reviewing, it's just that I can't binge watch their videos because I got bored with the exact same look from one video to another. Chris & Jordan show has always felt natural and somewhat real-time by shooting the episode outdoor where the sample photos were taken. Not to mention the long take on each scene covering a full or at least half a segment. Keep it coming!

Please Guys, kill the whole jump cut thing, it's amateurish & really detracts from the professionalism we've grown to love & expect from you. Love the 24p cinematic look, Jordan is absolutely on the ball there. Chris also carries himself perfectly for this content format. The transitions could be a good thing when coupled with your humor, but use sparingly. I think what I'm trying to say is... We love you guys just the way you are.
