Many thanks for this ultra pro comparison! Honestly, Pixel XL has a much better camera than the newer Pixel XL 2! Way more realistic and sharper. The new Pixel 2 applies a trendy bluc and skin smooting effect everytwhere, less sharp images :(

Lens flare alone gives the 1st generation Pixel 2nd place IMHO. For Google to release such a product and call it "flagship" is another issue.

Could you cover most of the glass on the back with say some black matte tape to get rid of the reflection?

I had a quick question for you: having owned both the Google Pixel XL and Pixel 2 XL, I've noticed that a lot of pictures I take on my Pixel XL are sharper than the 2 XL - especially when it comes to words/letters. have you noticed this through your usage of the two phones? thanks! - Elkbath

Its funny when in 2016 we say that "pixel xl camera is great" and the next year we tent to say that "you know pixel does not do that good job" in the whole review because a new model is out. Pixel has a great camera but pixel 2 has a better one, simple..

OG Pixel looked better to me.

I love(d) my Pixel 1, I've had it for over a year and can't upgrade until the full 24 months is up, anyway, I cannot record any video on my pixel without it jumping/skipping frames, idk I've cleared the cache, used different camera apps, shot at basic 1080 30fps, idk if it's bc of the moment wide angle lens? Idk, I wish it would fix itself though, I really haven't loved a phone like this for a long time.

Very good review.  Best comparison I have seen so far.  I think I will stick with my pixel and let pixel 2 pass.
