Omg now I think if they started the game with Abby's flashback it would've been so much better. I think people would've symphatized more with Abby as she hadn't killed Joel yet.
I know the reason why they made Abby look like a villain at first, but by the time you play as Abby most people have a hard time sympathizing with her at that point and for most it's too late by then and won't give her a chance.

I really hope with the second season of the HBO series they will tell it in a more chronological order.

This is definitely a fun experiment, and I have no issue with the video itself. But so many people are missing the point so badly in the comments. "I would have empathized more with Abby if the game started by showing her motivations!" Yeah no shit, but that's very obviously not what ND was going for. The game is designed to place you firmly in Ellie's shoes for the entire first half. You hate Abby just as much as Ellie does, and that is entirely the point. The game is about a lot of things but empathy is certainly one of the primary themes, and I find it really funny that so many people claim that the story would have worked better by making the act of empathy so easy for the player. The whole point is that it's hard to see past your rage and recognize the human being on the other side. The whole point is that you simply don't know your enemy's full story, and what better way to drive that home than to keep Abby's story from you until the 10 hour mark?

A lot of people just didn't want to be challenged like that. They just wanted another game that would fulfill their sad dad protector fantasy.

This version is much better, you can actually view Abby's perspective of the events and character more objectively

The best or most memorable part of the game SHOULD have been Ellie going to the hospital and learning the truth but instead it feels forced and rushed. What should have been an iconic moment felt like an afterthought.

I've criticized (and keep criticizing) SO many/all mainstream sequels I've come across (GOW: Ragnarok, Assassin's Creed Unity and Mirage, Resident Evil 8, etc.)

This one keeps being the only mainstream sequel I not only love, but praise. I find the woke integrates well with the story instead of overwhelming it, the message is deep and well told, Abby might not be what everyone wanted, but I find her shortcomings necessary and appealingly human, Joel's death, while dishonorable, I think it highlights he was so badass, they couldn't even defeat him fairly, raising the emotional stakes...

From my perspective, I think "TLOU 2" is the only sequel that managed to hold its status and conquer the hearts and minds of the right people, in the right way, which is by causing both hate and love.

I mean, even the haters say the game looks better in "Chronological order", so if this ain't proof this sequel actually managed to hold up to its predecessor's glory...

You tell me what you think of this opinion of mine regarding the mainstream sequels we've gotten through out the years.

That's how this game should have been relased. I hope Naughty Dog releases a Special Edition with some sort of chronological cut, just like Quantic Dreams. Most of the problems of this game, in my humble opinion, relies on structural problems.

If the game was like this it would of been perfect man. Why did they not produce this way?

the story and the characters are so deep except for dina she was so shallow and selfish she caused a bad aftertaste effect.

If the game was like this, I would not hate this game. I would actually praise it and thank you achieves game of the year when it came out but because it released the way that did it’s the most non-consistent storage of the game that I’ve ever seen.

I wish this was how this game played out, Joel wouldn't die immediately, and you would and wouldnt want Abby dead, and it would be cool if they made 2 endings, one where you kill Abby, and then the one we got. however, the game wouldnt really start until 3 hours in

The only real problem of the game was narrative. it should play chronologically.

My non gamer wife fell in love with the hbo series. Anxious to know what happens next, she spoiled the events of the 2nd game for herself. I am currently midway thru the 2nd game and I am enjoying it thoroughly, despite one particular heartbreaking occurance in the story line, it's a great story for those of us that understand not every story has a happy middle, or a happy ending for that matter. I didn't even watch this video, simply because I don't want to spoil anything I have yet to discover during my playthru, but I think I am right in assuming that things do not turn out in the manner most fans of this game series were anticipating. As far as I'm concerned, these types of stories when the good guys lose, and the heroes of these stories experience unexpected tragic fates, are the best types of stories. Contrary to the popular critique of the events of this game, I as much thoroughly enjoying being shell shocked by what I've witnessed so far. Happy endings are fantasy. Tragic endings are real.

I had read the story of Part II but never played it--do they ever explain why Joel and Ellie are not living together? I had already seen the scene of him playing guitar and came her to watch this partly to see if it would fill that in. It also seems that a lot of time has passed since they got to Jackson with Ellie doing patrols and stuff.

I don’t care which order the game is viewed. I still hate Abby’s father because he was so fixated on creating a vaccine disregarding Ellie’s life simply because he doesn’t know her and she’s not kin to him. Notice Marlene asked TWICE, what would he do if it was Abby that’s immune. He couldn’t answer.
He wanted to bring forth a vaccine and use Ellie as a test dummy but what if it fail? What if he needed 3/5 immune persons to heal the nation? What if the human body rejects it or it doesn’t have longevity and have to produce another vaccine every couple of years? If the uninfected were already divided and fighting each other what on earth made him feel like those millions of people were just randomly gonna accept a vaccine?
Ellie also pissed me off because she couldn’t see the bigger picture that Joel was protecting her just like Marlene until she gave in. Joel loved Ellie as a daughter, any Father would save their child from dying no matter what hence the reason why Abby’s Father always evaded Marlene’s question.
He got what he deserved.

Introducing the game with Abby grieving for her father and cutting to Joel telling the story of how he killed him and lied to Ellie actually gave the impression he was a bad guy. Well done.

Looking at this game/story from this perspective, I think it’s safe to say that Ellie will never be as good as Joel as a survivor….for example when Ellie was with Owen & Mel @the aquarium 🐠🦭🎡🛥trying to make them give up Abby, Joel wouldn’t have been that close to Owen or exposed while trying to match up the details. That was Joel & Tommy’s thing, Ellie should’ve had her own to exploit. & Joel certainly wouldn’t have left the map 🗺 that was definitely a rookie move, bc where was the threat? If you just killed everyone. So when Tommy showed up, y’all rushed outta there for what? Just to leave a trail for Abby to find y’all @the theater 🎭🎟🎸consequently.

Personally, I think the game would’ve been better if Joel died @the end of the game, so that we could’ve possibly had a chance to still play as Joel, but no…..we get to play as diesel-brolic ass Abby. 🏋🏻‍♀️Go Figure!!!
