This is great. I prefer digital games but Nintendo wants blood prices for old releases. Now I can shop used carts for cheap.

The cartridge slot is going to be used so much that its going to be more used than a Hooker.

With flash carts about to start popping off. Nintendo has to release the Switch 2 this year to recuperate from this.

The only way that I could think of if Nintendo would find something similar to what eFUSES do in the firmware. Connect the card to the system for the first time or after updates, burst random amount of "hypothetical eFUSES" on the card and sync that in the system, like a fingerprint for every card/console combination.
Cuz right now the Switch already has a check in place for game updates. So if you uninstall a game update in order to get back to patch 1.0, you actually can not launch the game, even if the console is offline and you deleted all the files regarding the game - the system remembered that the game already ran on a higher version. Inserting the card into an offline console that never played it will probably install some files so the system can actually read the card but aside that you can play on that 1.0 version the card comes with - so it has to be something already in the system.
So please remember: if youre on an 8 hour flight or something like that, with no access to internet and you suddenly remember that one glitch that worked in 1.0 and you get the urge to uninstall the update data to maaaaaybe give it a try DON'T DO IT! The only way it would work is if you entered maintenance mode and reset the entire console to factory settings - and that would delete EVERYTHING

Considering in my country Nintendo sells digital games at a higher price than physical versions this is the only logical option to own.

This is a big help if you have kids as well. Instead of handing them your expensive game cart you can put it on one single for them to use. I personally don't play online games so am less worried about that aspect

Can't see how if like you said they sell sword and the next guy might get banned all the save files for the games are on the switch not saved into the cart I lent sword have full dex and only yesterday bought a cart for myself to add to the collection and all my save pokemon are here no matter what cart I use and online info is saved onto rhe switch not a cart

The idea of popping a legitimate copy of a game into a non hacked console and getting banned for it is absolutely insane. I hope Nintendo comes up with a solution, though I'm fearful they won't be able to easily do that. Nintendo has no obligation to correct any problems like this, and it's a very complicated problem in the first place.

That's going to wear TF out of the contacts of the console. At least the first 3DS flash cart had a button on it to switch games. Maybe they can make a revision of it. Or now that its out in the wild it'll be reverse engineered and maybe someone else can improve it.

Looking at the hassle of need to have the necessary installation files, I would wait patiently a little longer to make it easy and perfect.

They don't scratch off the top of the IC to hide what it is. They hide the manufacturer.

Once inserted and reinserted, can you play all the games that you have already "inserted" or just the most recent one that you have loaded. Or once you do the insert eject process can you then play every game?

What's the status about using this to run homebrew and/or game development? I know one of the Turok games on the Nintendo 64 was developed with one of those bootleg copier devices (I think it was the Doctor V64).

That's why I don't like this idea, I like buying all Physical copies instead of digital copies. I won't be getting this because I am one that likes having my own games.

I have no doubt Nintendo will find a way to block these.

you actually have a legal right to back up software that you bought a copy of that's been a thing for decades. what is really needed is the same definition applied to digital downloads only that's where a backup local copy is really needed these days with the disappearing physical media

Okay but.. lets be real. Its only purpose is for piracy/bootleg gaming. Its not for somebody with a situational problem where they have a bunch of games and cant figure out how to tote them around.. so they then make copies of them all to be played like this in case its lost. lol

I play on PC. Dont have any of these issues. Also, with how Nintendo is, I dont think they care if somebody tries to make it sound like they did something the legal way with their stuff. Extremely litigious. I'd just assume they're coming for you. haha

Chinese engineers will soon reverse engineer this chip and a cheaper version will be available on AliExpress.

People go great lengths to justify these products with far fetched scenarios and use cases. It’s for piracy, period. You know it, we know it, they know it. Just own it.

I want this because i have a couple of cards that are giving me problems and I'm afraid they will stop working and then i have to spend money buying those games again. This is really good as a backup of the games we already bought. I also like cards more than digital :D

No longer! And I am absolutely sure that this will not lead to an even stricter copy protection or even forced online connection. Nintendo will just accept they lost and everyone's happy.

Do we know if this will allow us to play modded/patched versions of games, or even allow us to run older versions of switch games without resetting the switch? If you could run older versions of games that would help the speedrunning community a lot, and being able to play modded games would be awesome to do on-hardware without hacking the switch, though I would imagine if this acts only in the way a cartridge can, then maybe those things aren't possible without some kind of spoofing...

This will be great once more revisions happen. Popping it in and out is kind of a deal breaker for me right now, but I get these things need time to integrate properly.

What happens if you’re mid game, put the console into sleep mode and then turn the console back on? Will that swap game files and cause any issues?? Or will it continue to run on the same game until ejected and reinserted?

The only reliable way to prevent piracy is to provide a better alternative and price it reasonably.

Nintendo hasn't ever done either and they still wonder why their products always end up having more holes poken into than a piece of swiss cheese...
