I'm glad that at least these two traditional venues for professional Kabuki still exist. I think there is a unique charm in being so close to the stage and actors, and I hope I'm able to see a performance in one of these venues someday. I have been doing a little bit of research on Ji-kabuki too, and I was really surprised that there are some traditional theatres being used for amateur performances also. Sometimes the Kabuki world feels like it's just a small club of actors from famous families monopolized by Shochiku, but there are actually more amateur performances that I expected. This would be a good topic for a video I think!

Very rare to see videos of Somegoro online performing Kabuki, there are more videos of him being a model!

I didn't catch if the Kakegoe culture is back - there was one very loud 'mattemashita' in the performance of Hagoromo, but no other instances. I hope the Kakegoe are back?

How wonderful and how sad the dance of the two birds with the bird catcher. Their costumes so innocent and touching.

Fantastic. 'Other-Worldly' indeed!
