Gladiator is only entertainment. If there is going to be entertainment movie with historical accuracy. But there are no Stanley Kubrick....then the Denis Villeneuve and Christopher Nolan could be our hope.

I would have thought Lucius Siccius Dentatus may have been a bit of inspiration for his character as well. Being he was a brilliant and highly decorated general/centurion. As well as undefeated in battle and loved by the people much. He also met a tragic end.

The fact that Maximus is loosely based on the man who actually killed Commodus just makes the film that much more layered and legendary.
