I will always hate the fake love confession because she was the most dynamic character in the show being the worst person to Naruto at the beginning and there was no one who's opinion of Naruto changed more than her. This would have been the full turn around for her character if it was real. But instead in Boruto now she's with someone who tried to kill her. Hell I'd have been happy with Rock Lee with her over Sasuke despite being a NaruSaku fan.

My stance on Sakura's confession towards Naruto was that it was always grey. Neither completely true nor false. Sakura has shown attraction and love towards him in private moments and during the debacle when he henged into Sasuke. It would've made more sense to show Sakura was conflicted. The feelings she had for Sasuke; created from desperation, inferiority and infatuation....were waning. While the more healthier admiration, dedication, respect and etc...from Naruto were growing. Once again showing Sakura has the balance within team 7.

People say she was cruel, but she's a freaking ninja. Ninjas aren't suppose to always be nice. They are supposed to lie, be deceptive and use leversge to their advantage. Kishimoto could've literally had Sakura talk to Naruto in private regarding her feelings and touch upon the topic of Sasuke. Naruto whose still idealistic and believes Sasuke can be saved. Vs Sakura who feels ambivalent and unsure. She no longer shares that solid belief and they clash over this, but there's still an underlying chemistry and unspoken feelings.

Sakura is willing to bare Naruto's hatred in order to relieve him. And this fits in line with Sakura always wanting to be able to stand beside her team; despite being a civilian ninja w/ no epic bloodline or aristocratic jutsu. I remember the look on Sakura's face during the pein invasion upon healing Hinata. She realized Hinata did have feelings for Naruto and looked sad. Sai's confrontation, Hinata's actions and Sasuke's behavior should've been the catalyst for the confession. And the fact Sakura wants to be an active participant and not sheltered from the truth and harshness of it all.

I feel... Kishimoto did this to Sakura on purpose to push her aside in the Naruto vs Sasuke debacle. He would never allow a female to hold equal say and weight in such a narrative. He kept Sakura stuck to Sasuke no matter what. Even if she should've outgrown him and it made no sense. It made no sense during the war when Morio cause her to think about Sasuke in a depressing as way. Claiming whoever she loved must've been worth it. And all Sasuke did was belittle her. Naruto and Sakura have a more organic romantic narrative than either of the canon couples. Kishimoto wouldn't even let Sakura go thru with the resolve to try to kill Sasuke. Its okay if she failed and he almost killed her, but bit at least she wouldn't of froze up and stopped because of "looove". Females in this series are treated horrendously. Hell, Itachi loved his family and clan, bit hat didn't stop him from slaughtering everyone. Sakura should've been an equal player in bringing Sasuke back and kinda at odds with Naruto before the war. Kishimoto made her side step and fold. Basically admitting she couldn't do shit, but watch.

And Kishimoto just makes any independence Sakura had from here on out non existent. During the war arc when Sakura was pumping Naruto's heart...that was more of a real love confession then anything else. I loved that scene and Kishimoto just ruins it all...😮‍💨

Lastly, Naruto lied to himself during the last film, because he still loved Sakura and only got with Hinata out of gratitude, obligation, and a brainwashing genjutsu. And Team 7 oughta to have learned the Sasuke they remember is no longer existent. He's changed. Sasuke has more in common with team hebi then team 7. Sasuke is aware of the grey's of life; while Naruto and Sakura see everything in black and white. Team 7 will never bee what it once was...and that should've been a bittersweet lesson in the series. Sasuke still wanted Justice; while Naruto imo glossed it all over and became the very system that manufactured his childhood. And Sakura just felt entitled to Sasuke...even when he rarely acknowledged her feelings and only got with her out of obligation and duty.

To be honest I don't hate sakura, Personally speaking thats a type of character that would get A LOT of development, she felt excluded from everything Her Crush left her, Her crush's boyf- bestfriend who had crush on her was suffering cuz of a stupid promise, She couldn't get any stronger cuz she didn't had any special background support you know OCULAR PROWESS OR A FUCKING CHAKRA MONSTER AND BEING THE SON OF A GREAT CLAN AND A GREAT PERSON. (No offense takes time and Patience to learn what they did) Ohh can't forget that those 2 are spitting image of Sons of Rikkudou Sennin.
It's like she was played dirty by her own self.

Honestly if Kishimoto intended for her to be like this and everyone to hate her THEN THIS IS A GOOD CHARACTER WRITING CUZ LOOK WE ARE STILL TALKING ABOUT HER!!!

I dont think sakura was lying about loving naruto, she clearly cares for him. It was her lying about not caring about sasuke I think that put naruto off, because she still does.

Granted the biggest problem with the confession is that there is no follow up on it about what she actually feels about naruto.

Not really gonna say anything about this specific scene, but in the general case, I can say that there's a right way and a wrong way to pull this kind of stunt. Sometimes your character is just plain going to fuck up. Not everyone gets it right every time, and circumstances can cause people to do REALLY stupid things. If you want or need to do this in your own story, keep two rules firmly in mind: That character MUST be punished for this error, and you MUST explain to the audience why they did it.
I have a story I'm working on where an overall good and clever character ends up doing a lot of not very clever things that end up causing trouble for her and the people around her. As narrative payment for this, this comes back to bite her later when she loses her daughter's trust, having repeatedly white-lied to her for reasons that she thought were good but weren't. This is the punishment. In realizing how bad things have gotten, she starts to go over all that she's done with a new frame of mind, and realize just how stupid she was being. But she DID have her reasons. The short version for this comment is that she's centuries old, and change is something she's not used to experiencing. So she's set in her ways, and hasn't yet come to realize how things have changed so much in such a short time. Now that she's seeing it, she can start to adapt to it. This is the lesson. And it can teach the audience reading it that same lesson, to boot.

A smart character can do stupid things, IF they have a reason (however misguided) for doing it, AND if it blows up in their faces, AND if they then learn a deeper lesson from the experience. Skipping out on these steps can hollow a scene or entire character out in seconds.
Not giving the character a reason means they were just holding the Idiot Ball, nothing more.
Not getting punished for it makes it feel like they got off easy, never earned or deserved what they got.
Not learning a lesson makes it a meaningless, unfulfilling story beat. (Unless part of the meaning is deliberately showing someone refusing to learn their lesson).

No. I'm sorry, but I'm gonna be brutally honest here: this video only demonstrates a base level understanding of what happened and, more importantly, doesn't address why people dislike this scene.

There are 2 main reasons why people dislike this scene.
1) There were still a good number of people on the NaruSaku ship at this point. Regardless of Hinata's growing relevance, Naruto and Sakura spent more time together than any other pair of characters and had very strong chemistry. This scene firmly sank that ship forever.
2) Sakura's consideration for Naruto was half-baked in this scene. She lied to him because she didn't want to risk having an argument with him. She chose to treat him like he wasn't aware of the situation and dangle a reward over his head like a frigging pet rather than include him in the discussion everyone else was having. That IS toxic. Sure, it would have been a hard discussion, but she chose to avoid it instead of treating him like an equal. She definitely did care about Naruto (just not in the way she tried to convince him), and if they had talked it out, she could have expressed that she thought that promise was doing him more harm than good. There were so many ways a discussion COULD have gone, but she chose to disrespect him instead.

That love confession scene always came off kinda silly to me😂 I understand the truth wouldnt have worked because there was no way Naruto would let them do that to Sasuke but there is no way she thought that fake confession would do the trick. They would have been better off going on with the mission without contacting him at all. They probably felt they couldnt succeed without Naruto lowkey😂

This is another instance of Sakura patronizing Naruto and treating him without the respect he deserves. She acts as if she is superior to Naruto and that she can easily manipulate him by taking advantage of his emotions.

She doesn't give Naruto the respect of a proper conversation. Like imagine your friend thinking you are so dumb and incompetent that you will abandon your convictions just because they said they like you?

It is nothing more than manipulation to free her own ego-centric regrets at the expense of Naruto's emotional wellbeing.

I think a lot of people misunderstand the reason Sakura “confessed” to Naruto. She confessed to him because she knew he was in love with her and tried to use that fact to stop him from pursuing Sasuke. Because at that point in time Sasuke had joined the Akatsuki and supposedly captured killer bee. She wanted to protect Naruto. Even though she apparently still loved Sasuke for whatever stupid reason, I don’t think her “confession” was a complete lie. I mean the fact that she attempted to kill Sasuke, even though she failed, speaks volumes. I know Kishimoto said he’s bad at writing romance, but the relationship progression between Naruto and Sakura throughout the series is pretty great if you look at it in a romantic sense or a platonic sense. He ruined her character development towards the end though. I love her but dang he had my girl out here acting pathetic

Ok but what was Sakura’s brilliant plan if Naruto bought her fake confession? Walk hand in hand back to the leaf?

She, Naruto, and Sasuke were on the same team doesn’t she know the bond Naruto & Sasuke have?

Weren’t she and Naruto working hard for 3 years to bring Sasuke back? Why didn’t she just tell him the truth?

All Sakura’s shown with her “plan” to kill Sasuke is that she has no resolve and that she still loves him for reasons….

Sakura kind of had me for a moment there. I really belived she wanted to move on from her childish crush and lets naruto fill that void and open a new chapter in her life. But then Naruto just crushes her hopes of character growth while crushing his own adventure to becoming a man with the idea of.. Er what idea exactly? "Lying isnt good"? What the f was she lying about when she basically said "I want to move on"? Oh yeah I forget that is a kids show, you are not supposed to know that info yet that girls NEVER tell you exactly what they want or think except when they hate you and want you out of their lives? 😂
He should have just taking her offer and stomped her pathetic child crush with real life, making her a woman and becoming a real man in the process.
And if we run forward into the future into non-canon Boruto, you can CLEARLY see that SasuSaku relationship is PATHETIC, it is so pathetic my salary is looking amazing compare to their romance! The whole "romance" thing with sasuke is...SARADA EXISTING??87777
Imagine Naruto went with Sakura. You can bet your *ss if either Sakura or Naruto got a question like "what is the proof of your relatioship" you can get DOSENS of pictures just in the naruto and naruto shippuden which proofs everything without inventing things! They had fun moments, they had serious moments, they had protecting each other moments, they had spicy and private moments.. They had a very good thing together and Naruto should have just let Sakura go of her pain and misery and suffering! It was just Sakura rejecting him because Sasuke was there in her head and.. That is it. But in a couple of years she just.. Says "wait lets screw these child 12 yo promises and love and romance. You know naruto we had an AMAZING run so far, I know you like me and I was just over the heels with a particular guy type when I was a stupid girl?? Sai actually kinda proves how stupid I am with this Sasuke thing, its nothing special, there is a bunch of guys like him and..you know he spit in our faces right?? Lets put an end to that misery, I have that thing called regeneration, I can get his eyes and we can end that uchiha clown easily in a couple of days when my seal will grant me a chacra buff comparable to a bijuu then get some ramen, whadaya think???" - Naruto be like: ":o"
