The most forgiving plant is definitely the old fashioned aspidistra or ‘cast iron’ plant. Inside, outside, dry, wet, everything except strong (Australian bright), light.

This makes me feel so much better. I haven’t had all of those, but I do have some of them, and I have the same issues. My last Alocacia hibernated without a single leaf for a whole year! The only reason I didn’t toss it before it came back was pure luck. But it did end up dying for good at some point. My favorite, the Tradescantia, oh my. Last night I gave it the chop again, put some cuttings to root again, and 10th round here we go. The money plant? Yep. Same. Calathea? I have another kind but yeah. First year it lost ALL of its leaves and surprised me by coming back from the apparent death. It’s been doing much better for a while, but no considerable growth. 😢

Sir, Tradescantia on a whole are actually ground cover. Whenever their nodes do not have sufficient ground contact, they usually die off or put out some pretty heft aerial roots. Try some on a vertical wall cascade or a stepped and pooled pot but you will always have to trim it.

Don't buy orchids? What? They are pretty, and extremely easy to care for if you have a full sun window.

I rarely learn much from your clip.... Because I know a lot, TOO. But I finally figured out WHY I like your clips sooooo much.
You talk FAST. This is a short attention span world. You don't stutter. You don't "uh uh uh". You don't CONTROL your viewers with repeated cliffhanger comments. You deliver punch after punch after punch of high-quality information. And sometimes I learn something new. Thanks for the clips. As always, I hit the thumbs 👍 button.

Your water conditioner will also help your calathea, it's interesting how people find calathea, my zebrina has been my easiest and is enormous while my elgergrass has given me nothing but trouble and is attempting to book a trip to the bin.

Orchids are so pretty! My neighbor gave me a beautiful orchid with white blooms, several years ago, and I killed it in a month. 😭🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm still embarrassed by this. But, I might try it again someday, when I'm less of a newb. Maybe.

I have the suspicion that is not only that certain species are more demanding, but also sometimes plants as individuals have "personality" and are prone to drama. You move it then it wilts for some days, a snail bite, it starts to die away, you barely underwater it, it dries out some leaves, you put it in the shade, it wilts, put it under indirect light, it burns, take it back to the shade, its fine. You pair it with other plants, they may get along or they will bully each other. And there's that one plant that is always under attack from bugs and the surrounding are fine.

I hadn't had that issue with Birkins or that alocasia (but I have with other alocasias).

I have a mystery plant that has me stumped. It was labeled a swiss cheese philodendron. However, the leaves were shaped like monstera adansonii without the fenestrations which never came. It loved the sun and grew 10 ft long in less than 6 months. It was bushy and happy. But winter came and it lost all of its leaves like a deciduous tree in fall. Ive about had it with this one too. It might be going out

Great vid again! Howeven I don't have any problems with my string of heart. Yes it's tingly but it choices to. Just keep in mind it's a succulent (it's weird, I know, been there as well). It's thrives in pon and rarely loses any leaves cause I water it like a succuent. I hope this may help some of us!

Your recommendation for Sansi grow lights honestly changed my plant growing life! So much so that I’m hip deep in greenery! I really enjoyed this video. It’s good to see that even experienced plant parents like you struggle to keep the little green darlings living their best lives and we can get the benefit of your knowledge

Come and live in the subtropics and you will have them jumping out of their pots.
I love all of the above, have all of them, and have no problems.

I agree with tradiscantia, but for some reason i don't mind it with stringof hearts as the steing of hearts grows from a tuber thing. It means you can cut off the really long bits and force it to branch. Or you can coil and weave it as it grows. My mum kills plants for a hobby and the string of hearts is the only plant still going strong after 30 years of neglect.

Alocasias are bulbs so if you just chop it down during the dormant days they will grow back quickly when it’s time for them to do so.

Well... in regards to orchids.... which one? There are tons of them. I never had success with phalaenopsis for the life of me while I was mostly successful with dendrobeums and with varying success with vandas. Phals and Dendros in pots while Vandas were tied in tree trunks. And yes I'm mostly successful with orchids as outdoor plants instead of indoor ones.
