I have Cisco Linksys e900 and I want to use it as an extender.
My main router is Nokia router.

My qn: is it mandatory to keep same name/SSID as Nokia router? How would I identify cisco is extender ?
I named cisco different to make it identical rest information I kept as you mentioned. Now the problem is I am not able to connect cisco wifi

It did work for me, Im not advanced in networking, but it was easy to understand

What happens if give the access point a Different SSID than than the main router?

Thanks mate, the only problem is once I save these changes, I can never access the router settings of the access point again. Is there any way to access the settings? In case I wanted to change the password or SSID? If I type the IP I set into the address bar, the connection always times out.

How to connect extender without cable?

Hi, Really a nice work but i have to ask one question please.
is it mandatory thing to keep same wifi name and password for both routers? what will happen if we choose a different name and password.?

I bought a new Gigabit router today, and wanted to replace my old CISCO Linksys E900. This video helped me to use my Old Linksys E900 router as Access Point. I exactly followed the steps as explained in this video and my home setup is working. I have now connected my two laptops to the old E900 router though 2 LAN cables, able to transfer large (about 7 GB) files between the two laptops at 11 .2 MB/s, in 9 minutes, which is good enough use of the old router. Question: After setting up the new AP will the other unused LAN ports be active as well?

I actually ran a cable to my garage where I set up this AP and would like to plug in a desktop, TV and XBOX in the other three ports (making a small man cave in there) but I am uncertain if it will work. I could run the last two devices listed off of the new AP's wi-fi, of course, but I would prefer an ethernet connection to the desktop.
