For me it was the total opposite, I have used duckduckgo for many years and after reading somethings decided to give brave a try I hated the results I got it was almost never what I wanted plus I started getting fb and yt ads for things I searched on brave which never happened when I had ddg. So I switched back about 8 months ago and I'm happy with it.

Does Brave have searches where you can limit by date range? What about Yandex?

I am starting to think I am a bad searcher. I can only find things using duckduckgo and swisscow. I tried start page and could not find anything I was looking for, it was frustrating, same frustration I get from just using google which I can not stand. Never used bangs in duckduckgo, not sure if swiss cow has bangs . Anyway thanks for sharing this. I have not used brave search so will have to try it.

I did a lot of test results with a number of search engines years ago. I've been using Swisscows ever since. I like their philosophy (privacy and security) and results-I can find what I need! Startpage is second.
