The REAL Reason Fox Mulder Disappeared on The X-Files

As we all now know, this is not really fiction or science fiction anymore.

While The Sopranos usually gets credited with starting the golden age of tv-drama, to me The X-Files - while definitely flawed - was the show that really first brought that movie-feeling to a tv-show. It was a really special show, unlike anything else at the time.

I actually really liked the last two seasons with Robert Patrick.

John Dogget was a way better character than Mulder.

When David Duchovny was off the show it killed the fan base.

I love all the characters, the loss of David Duchovny was rough, but his replacement was the perfect match. I really love Robert Patrick's character

It was a ģreat show because the story lines were never ending when it comes to space n paranormal theirs no definitive answers and always new "monster of the week " my teenage years defined what I watch now and x files was a large part of that as I'm sure it was for many ♥

I never wanted them to have a romance but if they were gonna have a love life it had to be with each other.

Doesn't everybody know.. Fox cannot fall in love, he is essentially Sherlock Holmes to Scully's Watson..

Not chemistry at all. Scully is nefarious in all senses and so many levels. Scully is Mulder's worst enemy, and her notion of science is dogma.

I started watching the show on Netflix in 2015 and seasons 1-5 was the peak of this show. I think 🧐 it started to go downhill in season 6 and really went downhill in season 7 and I still haven’t seen seasons 8-9 or the reboot but I saw the films 🎥 and I do wish it had ended at six seasons but those first five seasons are incredible tv 📺

I'm currently in season 9, and it's pretty rough. It's bad enough that the stories just aren't as creepy as the first couple of seasons, but then they also exclude Mulder, who added so much wit and comedic relief to the show. Just isn't the same, season 1 and 2 really are amazing.

xfiles was iconic for its time, but mulder was honestly annoying with his supernatural paranoia. i tried rewatching it years ago after having loved it as a kid and i rly liked dana but found mulder insufferable.

Show went on for too long

Robert Patrick was awesome as Doggett! And I thought him and Scully might hit it off or agent Agent monica rayes was Awesome. I like season 10 and 11. Mulder not paying a tip at the sushi restaurant was priceless. I laugh my ass off the whole episode. David is so dam great of an actor! He can pull anything off! Some thing with Gillian Anderson a Great Actresses. Everyone gets sick of everyone at work or home that's why the cheat or kill! Which is stupid you just move on! There was a episode were Mulder and Scully were investigating two agents that beat the crap out of each other. Randall Tex Cobb and that comedian was in it with the red hair. She had a twin sister and if they were in the same area then everyone would start fighting. I laugh my ass off to that one to and many more. Scully got to black eyes and fat lip and Mulder black eye and his mouth wired shut was priceless!!!!! X Files Rules!

Actually it’s Supernatural (2005-2020) that sits behind Doctor Who as the second longest running Sci-Fi television show in history I love this channel and I’m genuinely shocked to have never heard you or many other nerdy media video essay channels mention it. Despite the absolute disgraceful and disastrous series finale it is genuinely a brilliant show that is deserved more attention.

I am definitely in the group of fans who didn't think that Mulder and Scully as a couple shouldn't have happened , it was one of many reasons that the show began to fall apart ,was their sexual tension , I would say yes but more on the part of Scully, which creator Christ Carter hinted early on since the first season ,but in the case of Mulder I felt Scully became like the sister he lost , if I remember correctly her birthday and Mulder's sisters birthday were almost on the same date ,leading me to believe this was Carter's intention as well , giving in to fans shipping for them to get together ruined the modern day Holmes and Watson vibe that the show had going for it, Carter's error was that he should have retired Scully when Mulder was out of the equation or at least a season after the introduction of agent Doggett who was a great addition played excellently by Robert Patrick but i felt the character was never given a chance to become more than a replacement for the missing Mulder.

They thought they could insert anyone into the role, that it was the character, and not the actor, who people tuned in to see.

The personalities of the two leads played so great on screen, and Gillian Anderson was just so super hot. That’s what made the goofy show work.

As an X-Files fan who used to have a celebrity crush on Gillian Anderson, I actually never tried to ship them, I vaguely remember being more like "okay, cool ig" when it became suggested that Mulder is the father of William.
It never frustrated me when he left (I was just so glad they never got rid of Scully), but I do agree with fans that seasons 8-9 weren't all that great, having a lot of hits & misses anyway.
But as entertaining and intriguing as the reboot series was (especially the Mandela effect and AI episodes), it did bother me that they completely forgot about the brand new opening sequence they filmed for s9 and just reused that (with mention of Doggett & Reyes edited out) instead of reuse the moldy oldy seasons 1-7 intro.
I also remember thinking it was strange that Doggett was completely removed from the series. Or that the actors who played The Lone Gunmen still occasionally made post-"Jumping The Shark" cameos as their ghosts (and in Langley's case, an AI entity on Mulder's phone).

Anyone who watches the show knows that it should ve been 5 seasons.

Milder was really good character, and it's quite sad he dials appeared. Agent Doggett just was decent replacement, but he was still far inferior. Like, he was so stubborn it was getting quite stupid by the end. Doggett saw stupid amount of supernatural and alien phenomena, and yet, to very end he remained much more skeptical than even Scully.

Must admit, I had my reservations when Mulder disappeared, but I persevered and the show with Doggett was just as good. Of course I was delighted when Mulder eventually came back also, well here and there he did.

With the writing on this show they could easily continue it without Duchovny or Anderson.Patrick and Gish were great Just get some established actors and it would be just as popular

This was one of the BEST shows ever. It would be great to add that so many fascinating characters also made the series so AWESOME!! Thank you to all the actors and actresses ( Yes,politically "incorrect" i need to know who's who.) who worked so hard and did so well on this show. All the crew too!!❤
