Black or white or colour treat everyone as human not the skin colour, race, title, etc.

Where is the problem ? Her mother was her mother. I do not understand that a color of skin is mentioned on birth certificate ? Is that legal ? That does not exist in my country and it is even forbidden to mention anything about the colour of anybody.

My mom appears to be white but is black. As is my father. Both born in Louisiana in 1960 and they have “Colored” listed for the race of their parents. I came out the complexion of my mother and I was always told to NEVER pass! She was very heavy on me embracing being black. I can’t imagine the stress of having to hide who you are! 😢

I feel so sad for her mom that she lived her whole life ashamed and so sad for society that she felt the need to hide her whole life.

I believe in the USA your classed as black as you have a ‘black gene’ even so your appearance is white? I wonder in 50 years how appearance will be perceived?

This is hilarious I guess it's because I'm black that I don't see how she passed maybe because a black person knows a black person you can look at the woman being interviewed and tell she is black she looks black just lighter skinned I think a lot of people back then were naive that goes to show you that race shouldn't matter because he loved her for her not even knowing she was black

Many people in Brazil, against their will, pass as either Black or White… It’s ridiculous, but I feel it doesn’t get as much attention from our own media (specially the Black passing people, and u know why). I still see many people (in such a nation full of people from several backgrounds) confused that they’re White JUST BECAUSE their skin is light/ fair or Black just because their skin is dark/ deep. Once I told a woman (politely) I was biracial and that, by that, I meant White and native American… She said (in a passive aggressive form) “but you have this and that feature… YOU’RE A BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMAN” (sorry ma’am, what? lol)… That lady was Black, but once a White lady told me something very similar (and the same passive aggressive way)!
It is ridiculous! Stop that in Brazil, in the USA and in wherever other country! The world is NOT made of White and Black people (just reminded about that “Cleopatra Netflix situation”… But the fact that she’s of Greek ancestry if I’m not wrong, aka a White woman, makes it kinda interesting since I feel the two involved groups, and by that I obviously don’t include North Africans since that’s apparently not her background, are the ones who do that more frequently lol)!

As a Mexican with different races mixed in my blood that I’ll never identify, I’m very confused about why races are so huge and important in the US, to the point of saying things like “I didn’t know who I was anymore”, what?

I thinknthisnis very inportant to bi racial people as one myself you tend to lean toward the group you spend the most time with now in day but with the way everything was back then i can see you trying to pass yourself off as something your not this is a big wake up call to people we are all intermingled and thoes hateful people maynot be as pure as they think they are
