In Vanila game (no mods :) ) there is allways patern in spawned ore deposits either on planets or asteroids. For example on earth if you look for Cobalt deposit you will allways find it in spot with Iron and Nickel but it use to be 50-60m+ deep. Same goes for platinum in space.
As it was said there are almost allways two kinds of ores on asteroids. If I remember corectly last I found Platinum on asteroid that contained Nickel :) Sometimes third deposit of Ice...
Just memorize those paterns :) [Earth - Fe/Ni/Co; Si/Ni/Mg; Si/Ni/Ice; Au/Ag; ...] :)

Well, that's not the best part of SE. I do enjoying mining but waiting for the game to spawn an astroid that i need, is very mindnumbing. What do you think of controlling a miningdrone straight through the middle of an astroid? I could imagine that it is faster considering the way you fly around the astroid and the way the drone flies.

Small correction: Europa does have an atmosphere that ends at around 800 meters above ground level, so it is possible to fly around using atmospheric thrusters for mining.

What's up with your gravity drive? Are you using a script to control it? I just noticed that the artificial gravity was flickering like mad.
Anyway pretty neat shuttle you're using there.
Reminds me of a ship I made called the Hadron Collider.
It's all h2 powered, simar paint, and bridge is similar but smaller. Has on it a gravity drive and jump drives also.

There are astroids without any ores. They are rare, but I stumble across them quite often. I've tried the 25k detector before, but it makes my game lag. However, it's much easier to find all ores without having to fly around. Occasionally I use the 1k detector for convenience, but there is something enjoyable about going mod-less.

I played SE for around 2 years now off and on... roughly 1400 hours. and I just found my first Uranium Asteroids 2 weeks ago. I tried it many times and I just never happened. It is just luck I guess. So my game play style changed to reflect it as I never use Uranium for power so all my designs are compact and purpose built.
I highly suggest game plays with no uranium as I realized it makes power issues go away.

We have found platinum in the earth moon, but the deposits are rare. Platinum in asteroids is already rare enough, but the prospect of also finding uranium makes it worthwhile.

Play it with AQD Ores or Procedurally Generated Ores....the only place you'll get Uranium is the Alien planet. Using the vanilla ore distribution in the game is far too easy

and if i mine all of it somehow, will Uranium respawn?
say i play for years and years on the space map, is it possible to be completely out of uranium?

When it comes to drilling I have found that you get more ore with the drill attachments. The hand drill gets a similar amount but not quite as much.

You can speed up your process a bit by hitting the <ENTER> key and then typing "/gps Iron" or "/gps Uranium". It will automatically append "_2", "_3" if you type in the same text multiple times.

If you not running Ore+ mod which just increases the detection range which imo is very reasonable as a time saver you could just build a mole ship with a standard detector and right click bore through the asteroids quickly and watch for any ores.

the problem with using mods is that if you don't play with them you probably would use a small ship with a large grid ore detector attached. can decently scan entire asteroids if you fly around. A Hand Drill really sucks.

I wish Keen had added Ore Surveyor to it's new automatons update. Create a drone with this on it and it flies (within a specified range) and GPS marks all the Ore locations it can find.
