Allot of the lore questions you asked in this video about the nature/rules of the gremlins have been answered in the streaming show “secrets of the mogwai”. The gremlins are supernatural creatures created by two gods. One believes mankind is good and the other believes they are evil. So the mogwai/gremlins and their rules were created by the two gods as a test for humans. All the mogwai that exist were created by the god who likes humans and the rules were created by the one who dislikes us. That’s why when they reproduce the offspring are all evil. It’s because you failed the test and now the creations of the evil god are brought to life.

So both Gremlins movies had book counterparts, both were basically screenplays of the films with mild tweakings and they did create an origin of the mogwai. The mogwai were originally created by a space being who wanted to make creatures of peace but due to a failure in the coding created little monsters. Gizmo being good was because he was one of the original creations and there were a few other unofficial-official good mogwai that are often used for merchandising. For the Gremlins 2 novel instead of the theater getting taken over the Brain Gremlin takes over the book, for the VHS version of the movie the gremlins just hijack a tv and instead of Hulk Hogan it plays a western film instead.

HBO Max did release a Gremlins show which is honestly very kiddie (But still made me uncomfortable to watch it) and gave the mogwai a different origin story, but I still like the novel origin better.

Gemlins 2: The dentist scene is a parody of the dental torture scene from Marathon Man. Side note: I find it so funny when you laugh at stupid or ridiculous stuff people do in 80s movies. Sexual harassment in the workplace was so commonplace back then that placating a creepy boss, particularly a female boss, could still be used for comedic effect. Back then a scene like that would not be so removed from reality as to be seen as absurd rather than funny. Things never change though because I can remember saying the same thing about many of the movies parodied in Gremlins 2, when I saw them as reruns in the 80s.
