Paintbrush, Pencil, and Tool Options Explained - GIMP 2.10 Tutorial

I am craving for an 8x1 pencil brush! to make atari 2600 playfields... using pixel art in a 320x192 canvas. How can I do that in Gimp? one time I opened it and could not find a way to just change the width size and not the vertical size. The vertical needs to stay untouched!

Thank so much for clearly explaining what all of the settings do. I didn't really understand and this was really helpful. I'm one of the few people who uses the pencil most of the time. I'm using Gimp to create/edit images to transfer onto metal jewelry and then be etched. Because it can only be two color black and white and no grayscale I've been using the pencil. There may be a better way to do this, but I'm pretty new to GIMP and photo editing in general.
