I was a mechanic back in the early eighties. I used Craftsman and Snap on exclusively. I much preferred the Snap on . They preformed better and were much more durable than the Craftsman of that era.

Why did you cut the test short on the Wright? It did not let go. I get it that the chrome may not be as good as some and a we expensive compared to some. But mine have held up and are comfy and do the job at a quarter of the price of snap on. As I feel as so on sets the bar. At end of the day, I f my part by buying made in America. If it’s not made in America it better be the best tool ever. Thus I have found made in Japan , Germany, and sometimes Spain make the best quality. China can make some great tools but you can’t count on quality. I also hate paying high dollar for China quality that is consistent quality.

Replacing Tools I’ve lost over the years went from Autozone set to Husky to Craftsman (still have the Craftsman set 1something like 105pc) now I’m on the Tekton wagon just DIY saving Money by doing the work myself But I just want to say I couldn’t be happier with the Tekton Non-Skip sets. I almost have all of the Bundle for Automotive Repair. Can’t wait to complete it.

Would you say that these torque adapters suffer from that 20-80% reliability range for the measurements that a click style torque wrench has?

What about a digital torque wrench?

Off topic a bit but looking at some kind of torque wrench/adapter for punching holes into pieces of paper.

Diesel tech here. I have a full set of wrights and love them. There's a lot of high torque applications I use them for and the thicker handle is what won me over, also their grip system is unparalleled to any other wrench I've used

You were holding the snap-ons upside down the way the teeth are designed on the snap-on the long side is supposed to go over the top you were putting the short side over the top there by totally removing the whole design of the snap-on and right wrench designs the teeth are only on one side .
That gives wrenches where you held them correctly unfair advantage over ones held backwards.
Also your test setup is flawed big time because the ratchets was obviously allowing the hex head to bend downward and forward allowing you to put forces on it that would not be in any way available to any bolts that you're normally trying to loosen as they're not going to bend downwards and forwards allowing you to push forward pushing your wrench into the nut and bolt so the numbers are totally flawed for everything from the start on the open end test the test needs to be done in a vice or on an actual bolted down bolt that cannot move side to side to show the true strength of the Jaws of any of the open ends as well as the grip.

It has been shown over and over and over that the right ranch and the snap-on which is almost identical in design will twist the heads off of a grade 8 bolts on anything up to 9/16 with the open end your test is the only test showing the snap-on to have inferior grip wow you held the snap-on upside down compared to the rest of the wrenches

APEX makes both GearWrench and Husky so it seems odd that the wrenches are different? Maybe they don't use APEX for wrenches but just seems funky no?

I had some husky wrenches that I bought last year but never used yet. I needed a wrench for my bike. I had an 18mm for the back tire but no 15mm for the front tire. I was looking at my set and realized that I was missing a bunch of sizes. After a bit of research, it seems like most manufacturers of wrenches are missing sizes. I checked Home Depot to see how I could fix that. Apart from buying a bunch of individual wrenches you have to buy an incomplete set. At work I only need a few sizes, 19mm, 17mm, 5/8. But I was thinking how do I know what size I will need in the future? The only decent size complete set that I could find was Tekton. It also had storage rolls that will keep them organized. I compared the two brands and saw no difference in quality but the buying experience with the tekton was better.

some of these are being used upside down and you should stabilize the testing rig so it does not gradually tilt down while applying pressure even pressure on a bolt not moving might help the results. appreciate the effort though

I don’t really “remember” a good set of wrenches…but I do remember all the wrenches that almost seriously injured me, whether it was my fault or the tool. Broke the open end on two different Pittsburgh 15/16” wrenches, one came back and split my forehead open pretty good…all from flex in the open end. Broke a 9/16 craftsman, several Heyco wrenches, and one 19mm Carlyle. Not saying Carlyle is bad or craftsman, just speaking from what I busted. I never really had a preference toward wrenches, but if I had to choose, it would be hard for me to choose SnapOn’s OEX style, over Hazet’s 600N wrenches. I think snap on and hazet make the best wrenches on this planet.

Old school mechanic here, in my years of automotive mechanic, as far as best quality wrenches, back in the day it was Craftsman's wrenches, but now as time progress, and wrenches are being improved, my overall best wrenches now are the Icon Anti-slip combination wrenches. Now for ratcheting wrenches, either SK X-frame, the mac tools, or the Milwaukee, but hay that's just my opinion. But overall cool review.

A great review. As far as newer wrenches go, I buy Husky and Masterforce from Menards. I've got typically a minimum of 8 of each metric and SAE size on a ring , most 35 -42 years old. Everything I have is budget and nothing fancy. I never could justify the premium brands. I alternate between the the slimmest, longest or strongest for the nut or bolt I'm working on. I use a wrench extender often.

I'm less interested in the metrics that make the "best" wrenches... I want to see the tools company that has the LEAST amount of negative feedback. warranty/customer service/complaints from broken or faulty products is more telling to me than positive reviews... most happy customers don't make any noise

I’ve never had a problem with any of my snap on wrenches. I also would probably be using a line wrench or crows foot line wrench if I had to put that much torque behind a wrench… I do enjoy the Carlyle wrenches though, I have a stubby set and they do really well!

Interesting, I had a tekton round off a bolt. Not a big deal, was going to get my extractor. My coworker used his snap on flare wrench and he took it off. He even used it in the very sides that the tekton rounded off.

Not saying anything against this video, just giving my experience of owning a tekton and having a snap on bail it out.

Freight easy return. Hd not so easy. Some husky stuff is not In stock. That being said- HF does 2 things pretty well, and cheap 1- sockets and wrenches, and 2- jacks.

A lot of the other stuff is junk, and some is alright. What is really junk is anything that requires precision, like nut drivers, they round off, garbage snap ring pliers, sub par pliers, channels, etc, etc. Sure, Icon is probably decent (haven't tried them), but they are pricey, and at those prices, you may as well get an established, reputable brand for the same cost, and sometimes less, for that particular need.

They really don't make them like they used to. There's a big difference between j.h. Williams and the modern bastard child of snap-on. Same for old sk, sk-wane. Proto was also better before Stanley black and decker. Armstrong at one time was hard to beat also. But sadly all these old American industrial names are not what they once were. Wright is about the only one left of the good old standards and I hope they can make it in today's world.

Craftsman warranty is easy as pie. You can call, email, or go to participating retailer. I sent them a picture by email and in a few days my tool arrived. I went to Lowes and walk in with broken, walk out with new in 5 minutes (the customer service rep just basically has to log it). No hassle on my end on either form of communication.

Keep your snap on and I’ll keep my money!
