Being that the kit claims to have "3D NAND" on the packaging, as well as online, shouldn't it have it's own controller? If not, please tell us how to make part of my 32GB DDR3 RAM to allocate maybe 4-6GB as that "cache" you're referring to. Samsung & many other brands are DRAM-less! When Crucial is saying their P3 Plus NVMe SSD indeed has "3D NAND" - called Micron Advanced 3D NAND.

Another FATAL flaw, unless keeping at least another on hand & these days, some 2TB models are now hovering around $100 mark. However, most of these has QLC Flash, as does this one. Cons: QLC makes for poor sustained writes in some use cases, Mediocre performance in heavy I/O workloads & Low write endurance. Yes, has a 5 year warranty, yet this may slow some folks down, although many doesn't see nor "feel" the difference between PCIe gens 3 & 4. In fact, my PCIe 3.0 x4 Samsung 970 PRO with pure MLC flash & a true DRAM cache is sometimes slower than my wife PC with a 2.5" 250GB Samsung 850 EVO. Except in synthetic online tests & hers is an original Sandy Bridge upgraded to Ivy bridge (making it 3.0 x4 in the process), doesn't work with every MB, but Dell is an exception in many ways when using Intel components rather than their proprietary stuff.🤣

Also, as most of us who has owned ANY NVMe SSD with a Phison controller ( E31T model for this drive), are that they run Hot. Therefore, it may be better to use a x4 adapter, making sure it works with PCIe 4.0 gen, that includes a fan. It's what I had to do on some 3.0 x4 & 2.0 x2 (10Gbps and/or 6Gbps SATA). Unfortunately, it's hard to find any 10Gbps (or 1,000MBps) drives anymore, except an off brand. So those with that extra PCIe 2.0 x2 lane had to settle on brands not seen anymore, such as My Digital SSD, popular around the time of Haswell MB's.

Although the price on this (2TB) is great at $90.30 on Newegg today (09/03/23), I'd be shopping for options. There's Samsung, WD, SK Hynix (between Micron, Samsung & Hynix, the major brands of RAM for Both SSD's & MB RAM), there has to be another & better option with TLC on the table. I'd imagine corporations produced too much Gen 4 RAM & PCIe SSD's too fast, as compared to Gen 3 (of which there's still stock available). Hopefully Gen 5 will be better & someone will bring back SSD's with Real DRAM once more. This helps greatly on the heat & throttling, therefore holding speed closer to max advertised (on the proper gen MB).

Overall, if I had to review this, the title would had been:
Balanced QLC DRAM-less SSD

I got the 4th P3 Plus for $170. Very satisfied.

I had a 4TB SSD fail after 4 years. Samsung sent me a brand new one in Box. I was able to sell it and buy a 4TB one of these at a wash!

I may have bought the P5 Plus but I was workong on a mini pc that has only 2 places to attach storage so I wanted 4tb. The maximum size they make in the P5 Plus is 2tb and I wanted 4tb. The P3 Plus does come in 4tb. So I went with that. Fast enough for me.

Will this be good for playing games off on pc?

Can i use crucial p5 plus for my laptop? Or is p3 is better.(I’ve heard that p5 has heating issues)
