I Bought the CHEAPEST M2 MacBook Air! Was I Wrong?!

should i get this or save a few extra bucks and get the M1 Air? i know i won't be using it to its full extent and i also have a separate laptop for work. i'm probably only gonna use it for light productivity and more for media consumption. or should i just get an ipad? thanks!

I bought it for $899 from Best Buy. I just can't wait it to arrive.

I actually just bought the M2 air since my microsoft surface pro is starting to die. As a single dad with a two year old kid I really needed something reliable so i went with apple after using windows and linux my whole life. I also have an iphone, ipad, airpods and apple tv so figured why not. But very different from windows so still getting use to it

just looked on the refurbished shop, the refurbished version with the same specs was 100 € more expensive then the new one

Quick question because you mentioned the file transfer do you think that this will be suitable for a project manager because I mostly deal with files but 99% of the time it’s small files nothing huge and that 1% would be a big project where a lot of files are included will this be suitable for an everyday job or not ?

I had the base MBA and I had to return it, even for basic stuff it just felt like it was dragging. People need to understand 16GB/512GB is really a min and when you add the options the price is a joke, so at that point it’s get a MBP on refer’d. So what’s the purpose of the MBA, basic word, small excel, a bit of web. Anything else nope!! I’d go as far as saying really the MBP will just be better and a better value prop regardless 🤷‍♂️

The Mac book air does not conform to these new market conditions which will be adopted by many other countries .

In the Apple’s refurbished page, you can get a M2 air for $80 more than a M1. Considering it is a 2022 model, sounds like it is a better deal than getting a new M1 for $800. What you think ?

I went for the M1 Air with 16 gb ram and 512 ssd after watching several of your videos about it :D idk I bought it for 1500 euros where the M2 with the same specs would be 200 euros more, I kind of wanted the (in my opinion) better speakers on the M1.

I see absolutely no rational evidence for upgrading from the M1 to M2 generation. The gains are just not justifiable compared to the price of a new device. Skip M2 and wait for M3 at the least.
The absolute MVP Macbook device at the moment is the 2020 13" M1, if you only focus on the performance per dollar and you can get a device in good condition used for half the price of new.

BTW: I just upgraded from a 2012 Macbook Pro 15" to an used Macbook Pro 13" M1 8gb/512 gb for under half the price and it only had 37 battery cycles on the device :D
How on earth are they able to push 70-85 fps at full resolution 2560x1600 and ultra settings (shadows at low) in WOW retail ?!

I was coding in a hackathon that was 36 hours long, and I didn't need to charge the battery once! it lasted all that while even having a 2% battery after 36 hours. I had it fully charged before, the hackathon started!

Maybe a stupid question, with Windows laptops you have the possibility to have multiple users with their own login and accounts, what about MacBooks?

I took the road less traveled, I took my chance with an upgraded M2 Air with 10 core GPU, 16 Gigs of unified RAM along with 1 TB of storage. The M2 Air is pricey and is not supposed to be a powerful laptop either. But it is super petite, so light, so quiet, and looks absolutely stunning. With Apple’s 2nd iteration of their new silicone, the M2 Air is just as powerful enough to handle all sorts of tasks out there. The passive cooling —fanless design— was a deciding factor for me actually. ARM architecture is mature enough and has been with us for a very long time now, I believe with zero moving parts it's less likely to break down in the long run. I also play games and edit videos from time to time and I have never experienced a lag in performance or the overheating issue many people were apprehensive about. The M2 air is gracefully computing whatever task I throw at it. Perhaps Apple might have overcompensated the M2 Air with a larger and wider heat sink to make up for the fan. It's so compact and super portable I take it wherever I go. The battery life hitherto has been amazing. The keyboard could’ve been a little bit better though, I’m very satisfied.

Ive a ipad pro 2017 10.5, still works fine. Thinking of upgrading to a new ipad pro or keep this and get a macbook air m1. I do very little but thinking of studying down the line. Am I better getting the air or just upgrade my ipad and if i end up studying by a Magic Keyboard if i need it? Would love advice, im a limited skills user

Upgrading from an M1? Probably not worth it. Buying your first MacBook Air? The M2 for sure with as much storage and memory as you can afford. I treat each piece of tech I buy as the last, something I'll have to live with for a long time. So I bought the M2. BTW, I chose the M2 as a replacement for my 9th gen iPad, which frankly just wasn't up to very much at all. The M2's being used primarily for browsing the web and processing photos with Lightroom. I do lots of both. I do any really heavy lifting on my MacBook Pro. The M2 is a perfect inbetween machine. for me.

Debating on getting the base MBA M2 or upgrading both RAM and Storage or upgrading just 1? I would consider myself a light to moderate user and will primarily use this laptop for browsing the web, storing pictures, music and other documents. I might do some video editing from time to time as well. What do you recommend? I was thinking of either base model or going with 8GB Memory and 512 GB SSD Storage.

Just a warning to anyone who owns or is thinking about buying an M2. What Apple is not telling you is the M Series screens super fragile. Ridiculously fragile. I'm an everyday user, I take care of expensive items and yet my M1 screen cracked 3 times and my brand new M2 cracked within the first month! I still have MacBooks from 2013 and 2017 that have never had any issues. Apple is not taking responsibility for this defect in design, they claimed crumbs on the keyboard caused the screen to crack. Crumbs! I keep the keyboard clean with a laptop brush bought on Amazon. The worst part is Apple won't cover the repair and it will cost you almost as much as a new Mac, which is why I stupidly bought the M2 thinking they would have corrected the problems but they didn't and they are well aware of the issues. Google up MacBook screen cracking, you'll see what they are hiding.

Best Buy just had the M2 Air on sale for $999 new. Sold our M1 Air for $500. Not a bad upgrade at that price of $584 including tax after selling the M1.
