Hi, I was wondering what the small stud on the front of the head was for and what size were the jam nuts you used to transfer it? Thanks for the video.

When you tightened the head bolts I was surprised to see you tighten each one down independently, one before the other instead of tightening them slowly and evenly until the final torque was applied.

Great video series, thank you. Could you please clarify where exactly you ordered your cylinder head from?

So what happens if I'm putting the camshaft back into place after resurfacing the heads and they don't spin nicely ? Or smoothly. ? What kind of trouble am I in ?

On the right passenger side head the instructions says to align the intake camshaft with exhaust camshaft at the 2 dotted lines. Once that's in place the intake camshaft sprocket is no longer facing up at the timing mark. It's facing down. Will turning the camshaft clockwise interfere with the piston and valves? The instructions do not show or display anything after the procedure of the camshaft installation

I’m in the reassembly stage, managed to get the RH cams back in, but on the drivers side, the exhaust cam won’t fully seat. I turn the intake cam to mesh the gears, and it reaches a certain point where it just won’t go any further. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When I pulled the head off my 2000 tundra v6 there was a kind of silicone stuff on the block between the gasket and the block. I seem to recall that, not too far back in the day, there was a substance often applied to this surface , especially on diesels. It wasn't actually silicone and had a name something like "Indian Head" sealer. If I recall correctly, it was copper based. For sure there was something like this in my engine and It was all factory original. What do you think....?

I’m doing this right now and I can say Toyota parts will cost you $$$. The head bolt’s were over 170$ for 16 but with new timing belt and water pump and top end gasket set I’m around 1200$

I am guessing you were having overheating issues with short term divining, with constant bubbling sounds in your heater core and overflow. Plus no heat inside of the cab do to lack of coolant because of the crack.

I'm working in the passenger side now,the points align in front of each other but the lithe hole in the front is pointing 5 o clock I think is the intake camshaft not match is safe to rotate it? I mean to make the little hole to be at twelve o clock... thanks in advance.

It is confusing,in this video you aligned the single point of the intake dot mark with the single mark of the exhaust camshaft.its optional to use the double point marks instead?

THANK YOU I LOVE YOU MAN. YOU ARE GODS GIFT. I’ve been following this series for 3 weeks, I’m 17 years old with my first truck, never touched an engine before and I followed your instructions and you taught me so much about engines. After pressure test, BOTH of my heads were cracked and I replaced my heads on my 99 Tacoma. This was such a headache and a learning experience, now I feel like someone can point at a part into a 1st gen Tacoma and I can tell them exactly what it is. Mechanics were trying to charge me 3,800 just for the head gasket and I only spent about 900 for parts, tools, and fluids. Seriously man, taking your time to do this and help people is so great and I can’t thank you enough. My engine runs better than before AND I finally fixed this misfire. You rock man!!!!!!!!

Can you answer one question for me. Im looking to buy 4runner that has slow coolant leak and misfiring. My guess is that it has a headgasket issue, no white smoke yet. How do I know that the car was not overhead before? My fear is that after I replace the gasket to realized the engine has overheated and warped. Is that a concern or overheated might not be a concern. I don't see any oil in coolant or reserves yet. Thank u.

These videos continue to save me and I can't thank you enough. I am doing both heads and am in the install phase - on the right hand side my inclination is to line up two dots with two dots when I install the camshafts, and then rotate them back to the one dot/one dot position which they were in originally at TDC when I pulled off the valve cover. Do you remember if that is what you did with the right side and can you confirm that's a good plan? The FSM does not address it as far as I can tell, it says to install the RH camshafts with two dots lining up but doesn't mention rotating them back to 1 dot like they were when I found them. THANK YOU.
