Of the 3 Mad King Aerys narrations, Tywin's is definetely most accurate. He knew Aerys from a young age and show his descent into madness. Despite Tywins personal ambitious, it was Aerys who ultimately ruined their friendship by stealing his heir.

Also, I'm betting Varys was the one who snitched out Ser Illyn Payne. The Spider was clearly exploiting the King's madness and what how he responded to Illyn's comments was a good example. Tywin may have been rnning things more in the later years but Aerys was a cocoon for a new hope for the realm.

His frustration could be heard every time the targaryens do something that undermines his family's influence.
