Drivepool is working for me. with my 8x10TB Ironwolf NAS Pro's. Tried Unraid and TrueNas but one issue after another with both led back to windows based which is just working for now.

In the Netherlands a kW/h sets you back € 0,40 per kW/h.
That's 0,590 Canadian dollar per kW/h.

I feel like they'd benefit from some advanced consulting and using some more modern solutions than an ancient Netapp :)

Heh, are those the X412 600GB drives? There was/is a service bulletin about them, they had a much higher failure rate than normal. We had like 10 shelves, and would see one of them fail every two weeks.

I mean even if you took out all the drives the cabinet alone is worth the money. You can build stack pc’s, have all your audio, and local storage, and even have a trouble shooting monitor with mouse and key board to monitor everything with space left over.

I bought a stack of 2TB SAS drives and an HBA to build a NAS and some of them are also showing up as size 0. Sometimes they show as 2TB for a minute or two then go to 0. I cant change the block size or format though, I cant address them in any way, gives I/O errors and other trouble. Weirdly its only some of them, theyre all Seagate Constellation ES. Does anyone have an idea what it could be? Everything is updated, Im using TrueNAS Scale / Ubuntu, tried about everything I can think of..

4x24=96 Disks x 20T capacity = 1920T so this is Full-HD capacity ?
When we can see a 4k capacity?
maybe you can replace hdd with 100T ssd and raid them.
LOL 9600T or first near 10 Peta in one rack.
Put it on wheels and name it portable storage XD

It gets worst then this. Many of these netapp controllers have CR2032 "Watch Batteries" If these go dead for any reason including if you replace one, they lose all of their NVram settings turning the individual controller into a brick. The recommend way to fix this is to replace the ENTIRE controller

I will say working in an environment that uses netapp. It really is not easy at all. Enjoyed watching the issues. They are a giant pain and the fun of turning it off by pulling power cables after sitting off the clusters is always fun 😂 QSFP for fiber channel network!

ooo yea and you can rewrite those drives and some of the hardware to still be able to run with them i think you can run those sas expanders after putting compatible drives in or rewriting the special netapp hard drive bit order into compliant nonproprietary. i have the instructions from when i ordered 50 netapp 10k sas srives and am now using them in avago raid cards.

the issue is power draw, if you drop in 16tb drives instead of 600gb, i assume those are sas2 6gbps or sata 3gbps if thier 600gb drives, i dont know if those older sas cards are efficient either with 96 drives. upgrade the cards for like 150$, swap in a few 18tb drives, and you should be able to run at an efficient power draw. though i have a 4u unit that has runs 60drives half filled with 18tb drives pulling about 800w on load, though it runs a few sas expanders and sas 3 | 12gbps. my 24drive 15k sas expanders pretty sweet and runs at 200w, and 24TB. i pulled the last 15k drives made before production was halted

I work in the datacenter space, so I have experience with a lot of enterprise storage systems, servers etc.
So much enterprise hardware has corresponding software or even just documentation locked behind "customer accounts" which you only get with an active support subscription for the system you bought from the vendor (or through a reseller). It's honestly infuriating.
I am lucky enough to work for a company that has the highest partner statuses for basically any vendor you could think of, so I have "partner accounts" for most vendors, giving me access to any documentation and software for most vendors.
There's a couple of naughty ones, though, where even I, a technician with a platinum partner, need to rely on the accounts of customers with active support subscriptions.
The enterprise IT hardware market is so broken in so many ways.
(Another example for this is pricing. Discounts of 50% compared to the list price are the norm for deals we make, in specific cases even over 90%.)

Aww yes another LTT Infrastructure video highlighting a total lack of consistency or supportability. All these builds appear to be made for current and future max drama. No one is going to remember how each of these unique snowflake systems was setups over time and when things break it will be all sorts of fun.

I am deeply confuses given Linus DYI desire and budget why they aren't at least standardizing on something like storinator chassis and TrueNas. They could at least then get really knowledgeable about TrueNAS and do backups / replication consistently between their own setups.
