" YOU FUCKING AMATEURS STALLED THE REACTOR!" gets me everytime 😂 awesome acting from Paul Ritter (rest in peace) great series overall 4.5/5 watched it like three times. Allthough they made Dyatlov look much worse than he was in reality based on the real interviews i watched dyatlov talking about the accident and basically told everyone to go home but toptunov and akimov wanted to stay at the plant to minimize the damages

Never trust chefs who claim they can run a nuclear power plant. At best they take the core for an oven.

last night I was reading "Midnight in Chernobyl" by Adam Higginbotham. When the reactor stalled because of Xenon-135 I was praying for the test to be cancelled right there... what a strange feeling! RMBK reactors had some project defects all of them keep in top secret. But the major fault was that stup__ motherfu___ Dyatlov. These workers must refuse orders against the rules. Dyatlov didn't sleep for 48 hours before... But that night he was responsible for a nuclear reactor which he transformed into a nuclear bomb!!! How is that possible?!! The man studied Nuclear Engineering and worked on nuclear submarine reactors in secret for 14 years. It's not easy, for sure, to gain trust for controlling such energy facility... But he did everything wrong! I can't accept these facts. Did they really force the operators to choose between loosing their job or release a massive radioactive cloud in the atmosphere?!!!

Akimov could have been the man who saved the world from the biggest nuclear disaster in human history, but his fear of losing his job and been forced to move away from Pripyat , not to mention he knew about Dyatlov connections with the goverment, made him have no further strength to oppose to Dyatlov commands and let it happen. Because the rumors of Anatoly Dyatlov working for the CIA as spy and sabotaged the test, as a way to disolve the URSS once it for all, but there was not follow in the investigation, because it was gonna be the reason for the WW lll to finally explode with the URSS declaring war to USA.

Funny thing is, the real Dyatlov wasn't an asshole, apparently he wanted Akimov and Toptunov to leave before the radiation levels got higher.

The working environment that these plant operators had to endure was more toxic than the work environment of the liquidators after the reactor explosion

It's interesting to see how Akimov had refused to believe the reactor core exploded. But, from what I've heard about him in real life he was actually a pretty good guy, I've also heard he was often pushed around by his superiors...which means he was most likely treated like this often. I still don't think Akimov was a bad man or at fault for the disaster. That's my personal view though.
