None of these texts were written in Jesus’s lifetime so therefore none of them are proof of his existence. End of debate.

As for Jesus I think what is important is that people tend to believe in narrative that is more appealling or for some reason more utilitarian. Everything that exists from definition exists because there was a force or condition usually both that allowed this, or conidition allows, force enforces (in other words will ) and aim is the immediate goal of achieving that .. Jesus apart from being a historical figure is the idea of human who can overcome or rise above human current condition and elevate it higher despite impossible odds. The reason he had to be poor and with no political influence is that people of power already have it and may not feeel the need as much to solve their problems so much as people who are inferior in mind and body and stature. Those people need to believe that they can rise above this and become Christs, can redeem themselves. JUst because it is hard to do it oneself so there is this Jesus who can do this for us .In fact, because we need to believe in him , we effectively do it ourselves but because of him we can believe because so far we did not have strength to do it. Now when someone who is not God but who has God's attributes can help us so we become like God in our own concrete circumstances. Because we are tiny Gods we are deemed to be children of God. God uses will and imagination to make things happen. So do we. Yet we wander inthe dark because we do not know what effectively is good .Good things can lead to bad things and vice versa. But not always. Like eating sweets is good because may be nice , the same as drinking alcohol but generally it is not good idea. Fasting is bad but can help a lot. On the other hand too much fasting may be bad too. Same goes for setting up a family. It is good but then more responsibility that means you become bound to some sort of contract. If you break it there are some consequences. If you do not set up a family you sort of effectively deprive yourself of good things family brings but if everyone went that route the human race would stop to exist on Earth. (Highly technical analysis, reality is usually not what we think, that is why Jesus is so mysterious).

What about Nicodemus? He was an outside source that was an eye witness to Jesus and even spoke with him. There's even pontias pilot who examined him. The religious and political leaders that watched him die on the cross witnessed the sky darkening followed by an earthquake and the shroud in the temple ripping in two and the centurion looking up at Jesus seeing all of this was recorded in many different accounts saying "truly, this was the son of God"

There're many reputable people who attest to the authenticity of Jesus. Paul of tarsus sought after and executed early Christians and wrote his account to when he was blinded by a light on his way to Damascus and wrote many letters to neighboring lands. He believed as well as many others throughout the centuries after the death of Christ that they would not recant their positions to follow him and even died horrific deaths.

I don't know any other religions that have a conviction to that degree to die for their belief in a man who claimed to be the son of God.

Jesus even said in one instance where the Pharisees and sauducees questioned his authority and he responded ,"before abraham was, I AM."

In Hebrew that's the same as claiming to be God as in earlier texts in Exodus when God commands Moses --"And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you” (Exodus 3:7–8, 13–14).

So, a lot of speculation has arisen over the decades to Christ’s physical appearance and ethnic and racial background:

First of all, his father Jacob had Egyptian heritage (allegedly), and his mother Mariam (“Mary”) was of Levantine heritage.

Ancient Egyptians were a mixed race of Hitites (Turkish), Hyksos (Arab), and Nubians (Sub-Saharan Africans).
Levantines were primarily Turkish, who were a mix of Caucasians and East Asians back far enough.

Christ also had Royal Blood in his genes that can be traced all the way back to Noah, who was called a “Red Man”, just as his ancestors did all the way back to Adam. “The Red Man” was most likely referring to the ancestors of all Eurasians and were allegedly of a people called the Solutreans, who were the Proto-Native Americans that migrated across the Bering Strait, settling in ancient North America before the Great Flood.

Consider also the part of the world that Christ was born into (the Eastern Mediterranean called the “Levant”), which was a literal crossroads of all races and cultures of Men at various times. Remember, Mount Ararat (the mountain that Noah and his sons landed on after the Great Flood) was where they settled and eventually spread out from in all directions. It’s no coincidence that Israel and Babylon were founded as a great nations near this geographic area, and these cities were multicultural and multiracial with their Caste Systems.

Christ is literally a mixture of all races of Men in equal portions both physically and genetically: it’s God’s way of representing Mankind completely in one body.

I figured he looked like a bearded and leaner Vin Diesel with a more aquiline nose, dark, wavy or curly brown hair, with hazel or green eyes, with a tanned or ruddy complexion.

John the apostle different from John the revelation? Because of writing styles ..ummm imagine your language is Aramaic possible Hebrew, but you know Greek ( but its your primary language) you release letters have a scribe who is well versed in Greek to write them for you. Then you are arrested and exiled to an island by yourself then you witness the most important event and you have to record in a language your native tongue. That is why the style is different but compared to the John letters and gospel there is enough evidence to prove that they are from the same author.

A miraculous incident, and it is my obligation to say it and others have the right to know,I am from Qatar, and I saw the image of the Jesus Christ on the ceiling of my room, where He manifested April 2016 His face is a little long, white and beautiful, light beard, head hair lies on top shoulders. The eyes are sharp, and beautiful features resemble the people of the Middle East, The picture was very super clear, which astonished and surprised me. At first I was asleep and suddenly woke up to bear witness to the situation,I thought there is some likeness in the very slight of my friend , but a quick inspiration came to me. He is Jesus , all of this took a few seconds was enough, I don't know how the disappearance happened after the vision it happened once. Translate Arabic to English using Google,

The thing that puzzles me as an atheist, who is really interested in cult and sect mentality, is how scholars who sort of agree, that early Christianity was an absolutely standard run-off-the-mill cult, like hundreds of other cults we witness right now in every country, still see his teachings as some glimpse into the unproven, undetectable supernatural realm, and not a testament nature of human psychology that really doesn't change much over millennia.
Yeah, it's all based on myths, parables, and fairy tales. Therefore God is real. Like... HOW?!

So Paul the foundational exporter of Christianity doesn’t think people should pro create but should be celibate? And he’s an ardent follower of the teachings of Jesus.. ?? Then what is the point of Christianity if it’s acceptable to believe that the human race in short order should no longer exist? Or am I misunderstanding and he’s simply saying celibacy is an option and a personal choice and one he subscribes too.

I think you actually gave Richard Carrier short shrift. What clinches in my mind that he's right is that Peter would have mentioned Jesus's earthly ministry in I Peter, if Jesus existed in the flesh. If anyone would have been able to attest to Jesus in the flesh it would have been Peter. The Arguments for the inauthenticity of I Peter seems to stem from the unsupported assumption that he would have been an illiterate fisherman, so it's probably authentic. Paul and Clement also don't mention any earthly ministry, only visions and secret messages in scripture as proof for Jesus's death and resurrection.

In the Psalms it was Yahweh who can control the winds and waves, etc. and so for Jesus to walk on water would prove that he is on the same level as Yahweh according to the Old Testament. According to human philosophies I suppose it would prove that the supernatural does exist, as most people attest to when experiencing a miracle... See Psalm 18 for instance...

Very thought provoking. A number of years ago I favoured the idea Jesus was a Jewish cynic. With Nazareth located closer to the Greek sphere of influence. I also was mind blown by Jesus’ reading Isaiah in a synagogue and being kicked out for saying the scriptures are fulfilled in me. The same book of Isaiah according to the Dead Sea scroll as what we can read today. He seems to have believed he was a prophet predicted by Isaiah. Even as a child he was found arguing theology with the Rabbis.

Love your work. Thank you. On R. Carrier, I read his book on the Bayes theorem approach, and it was a mistake trying to wedge historical/lit analysis into a mathematical formula. But it is a useful model for thinking about historical knowledge, which is uncertain. It's about what's probable given all this other stuff we accept as fairly certain. For me, Jesus need not have walked on Earth to explain all that was written about him. Whether he walked or didn't, he's been lied about a lot by powerful people, so much so that who the man actually was doesn't seem to matter. I'm for certain values he is said to have promoted, and I take them quite seriously, whether he lived or not.

The Jatakas are the Buddha mythic stories, like Mount Meru and being tempted by the demon, Mara and the reclining Buddha sleeping story. He was born in southern Nepal. Buddhism does have heaven and hell and it is depicted at Angkor Wat here in Cambodia, the hell version much more stimulating than the boring heaven stories.

Oh, thank you for this. You are such a guy. I am going back to India next month for a four month geriatric run around the country. The Indian Museum in Delhi has the best stuff in the country, but it is surprising how most of the carvings only go back a thousand years, very few over two thousand years which for a five thousand year old Hindu religion seems a little puzzling. The Bangkok National Museum has a wonderful collection of Buddha statues from all over Korea, China, Myanmar, Thailand. Especially the funky oval shaped heads of those Myanmar Buddhas are the best, and you can shoot photos sans flash in both of these Museums. Shoot everything you see. It is gorgeous. Surya the sun god is cool, too, and can be seen also in the national museums in Hanoi and Saigon along with Cham Hindu art in the Cham Museum in Danang. But the Bangkok National Museum is a good starter and easier to get to. The Jakarta National Museum has been pretty much pilfered. The New York Met has an excellent Buddhist/ Hindu collection.

We know just Josephus made up plenty of his texts and very much stretched the truth. And never does Josephus say he learned his information first hand account. Josephus is not a reliable historical account.

Not a single gospel can be relied on as an actual first hand account.

Please study what Hellenistic Greek literature schools were teaching on how to structure/ write mythical stories. And then you'll have a better understanding of how the gospels are structured and the origins of stories regarding Jesus.

I’ve experienced a miracle, i delight in the supernatural, things that are just unexplainable, millions do. Millions of addicts have walked from their addictions, prayers for the sick and hopeless have both comforted and been answered, some of the greatest intellects the world has seen such as CS Lewis, Paul of Romans, Prof John Lennox mathematician, John of the cross , Aquinas etc fell in love with Jesus. I’m sceptical of anyone that delights with chuckles to prove something that was said by Jesus or the apostles as completely ridiculous and or unfounded as if he were actually there and witnessed it. My scepticism grows when he delights in as inferior to his own superior intellect his opinion for one example how Mary Magdalen just simply imagined what she seen at the tomb just to keep the Jesus narrative going. It’s obvious that this presentation is by a person that in most part does not like the message delivered by the gospels and definitely by Paul, so to overcome this non acceptance, reconstruct the entire gospel history to suit one’s own life style and preferred beliefs. 🙏❤️
