Thanks for the detailed explanation and demonstration, tyres have advanced a lot, not the same can be said about the Golf though.

Pls do the Same again with 4seasonntires against Summer and Winter or against older ones.

It would be very interesting if these are now for many people (so with a normal 100-150hp car who are not driving sporty) also a good option or a bad as ten years ago.

Same goes for bicycle tires btw. A good set of tires absolutely transforms how a bike handles.
I recommend the Schwalbe Marathon Efficiency for commuter/normie/training/hybrid bikes. Seems expensive but it's worth it.

Does the old tire got cheaper or they’ll just make the new one more expensive and maintaining the price on the old one? That would also be a good thing to mention

I firmly believe that tires are the most important safety feature on your car since everything else depends on them--ABS, traction control, overall handling, etc.

And... 1G of braking in the wet?!?!?! WTF????!!!!!!!

I know the engineering you just hate that you had two variables better to have done the same car with two different sets of tires. Maybe the old car was better who knows I don’t know.

I think it's worth noting that I recently bought new tires. And the Continental's were a really solid mixture of performance, price, and longevity. But beyond that, I was also confident purchasing them in part because the seem to have a commitment to transparency as shown with the multiple videos. That also played a factor in my decision-making.
So, whoever in their marketing department decided to partner up, it was a good call.

Great content and thank you for making this. Btw, the tires used are sticker tires? Would the results differ if they were scrubbed in (first heat cycle)?

Any idiot can brake: I thought so too. I lost this sentiment after a driving security training. A person could not brake hard enough to enable the abs. It was a minivan, so no high performance no abs something brake.

Um if the idea is to determine the best tire for these cars, then the same car should be used and only the tires should be changed. Experiment design 101. Embarrassing for a channel with "engineering" in it's name. WEAK

There's just one variable not taken into account: durability
How much will each tyre last? Did they keep it constant? Or it decreased in the newer model, giving it the performance of a on off track tyre?

I really don't understand this concept of Continental. For example here in Brazil there's almost no size offers for a SportContact 7, most of this line Continental still selling SC5, which is a almost 10 year old tech...

In this case I opted (and probably will do it again) for the PS5s, cause the 25%~ price plus is more than worth by the performance difference between them.

But the Mark VI has plaid seats. I know which one I'd pick.

I put the Extreme Contact Sport 02 through their paces this past summer on my warmed-over 3rd Gen Mazda 3 hatch. I ran down a Focus ST, 350Z, ND Miata, Forester STI, an old E63, and a 550i at the FCP Euro Proving Grounds at Lime Rock Park. Power has its place on straights and coming out of corners, but tires and talent are important everywhere.

Hang on. Isn't the premise just setting up a false equivalence?
It would be more telling to put the same vehicle on differing tyres so that the vehicle's age isn't a variable.

This exactly why I don't cheap out on tires. The biggest upgrades you can make for your car are lighter rims with better tires. Horsepower is useless if you can't put it down. I'm not running summers right now but my Conti DWS 06+ are great.

Older cars are more fun compared to newer ones.
Newer cars are heavier than their older counterparts.

This is because of WEIGHT.

Look at say the Honda Civic Type R from the 90s to todays.
1060kg vs 1430kg
