All this panic that has been whipped up about Artstation and AI is like farmers versus cars at the turn of the century. The purpose of art is to make the world a better place, not to make an extra hundred thousand dollars. I don't think that Artstation authors will have nothing to eat in the next 5-10 years. We're on the cusp of great change. You've seen that neural nets are now starting to make perfectly acceptable models from photos, right? That means that one day we may wake up and BlenderKit is a thing of the past, just because. Because any model of any complexity will be modelled and animated by a neural network and this is not the future but reality. You have heard that all jobs in the intellectual sphere may disappear in the next 10-15 years, we will be forced out of the intellectual sphere, as we were once forced out of the physical sphere, before most of the population was involved in agriculture, now 3% provide the rest of the population at the expense of machines. The question is where to be pushed out of the intellectual sphere? I believe that there is a spiritual sphere, the sphere of intuition, access to which can be obtained through long work with one's consciousness, and machines will never have access to it. Spiritual masters will lead mankind and build a new bright future on the ruins of the old, and I am not talking about those greedy leaders of world religions, who do not differ from the world leaders, I am talking about the saints, about those who will prove their right to be these leaders. And materialism is throwing us head over heels time after time, which is what is happening now. I see, I feel how the mood is changing, how humanity is again preparing to plunge into the chaos of a world war, at the will of the current elites from the past. That's what I think. I'm sorry to dump all this on you.

Provenance (as you use it) assumes an original thought which rarely exist - you will end up with mess like the USPTO. Further, "use case" is often worth more than the idea/invention and probably involves others. Priority (who was first) means what? Context?

Jaron as always on peak form. Love everything this guy says. But I really have to call out the presenters, they couldn't have been better at engaging with him!

The claim that open source "mathematically" leads to Monopoly is not obvious and requires way more explanation.

In fact it's so non-obvious, without a lot of convincing, I'm going to have to say this is a completely false premise by default and any logical inference that follows from it is also a false premise by default.

In my opinion if you pay to use or not the companies will try to manipulate you ever, this is the way surveillance capitalism does.

I agree that there should be an arbiter of truth: me! Everyone should be required to repeat what I believe.

His book 'Dawn of the New Everything' is incredible and prescient (published in 2017). He is one who eschews social media but I try to share his work in VR and thoughts on AI and tech whenever I can.

Holy cow! This guys looks like he would be speaking well above your head, but man, he speaks plainly and in a way that a regular person can understand. He’s got a very great skill in this.

Close caption keeps using Providence but word he’s using is an art word, provenance.

Providence implies fortuitous planning for the future. Provenance is about the actual past. A list of events about something that is valuable that shows where it’s been, in whose hands, on what dates.

If we pay for something it does not mean we do not get manipulated.
It's far to much simplified an answer from somebody being responsable.

Criticism is the ultimate face of optimism. What a brilliant observation. So true and sadly actively avoided by most due to our modern day sensitivities. Would have liked him to delve more into the mathematical issue with open source creating hypernodes. Not sure i agree.

I just started to learn about AI. I always thought it was a bunch of sci fi nonsense. Now Im beginning to think its a real threat to our existence. It sounds like ordinary people will be subjugated and seen as worthless.
