Can somebody help me? I’ve worked until I got the first exercise down, but I can’t seem to get the second. Can somebody explain the difference?
ОтветитьIndependence doesn't exist ! When we play we use coordination. An exception though, when we play an ostinato with two feet, we can play out above. For an unknown reason, I can't play out while keeping an ostinato (clave for example) with one foot (except 4 or 8ths of course).
Jim Chapin called his method Coordinated independence. We should say Interdependence.
Most valuable drum lesson on the internet for me so far. Just got my e-kit and haven’t played in 12 years and probably only played 12 hours maybe 10 times before so I’m starting over basically. I’ve been looking for a video on independence that made it click for me and just you showing your understanding of what’s happening showed me you’d have have the answer to fix it
ОтветитьAlso your over thinking just look at the sheet music and see where the hi hat is being played
ОтветитьMan said "your independence sucks" and i clicked the like button.
ОтветитьCan some of us get a sheet for this cause I'm not understanding it
ОтветитьThanks for helping me out so I don’t stab my right hand when I play Master of Puppets
ОтветитьThat really helps thanks man
ОтветитьJust watched the beginner independence video. It seems reasonable to follow; but the exercizes are too fast for me to grab onto. Maybe a bit of really slow for us beginning beginners. (I only started on kit a few months ago.) Otherwise, you and Clark are the best!
ОтветитьAll of that from a bass drum high hat and snare holy shit
Ответитьduuuuuude thank you. I got a kit here because I was previously in a band and I just got gear for other people not to have to load in and out to come practice... but I cant play them to save my life cause of this problem. But ths is helpnig a ton.
ОтветитьWhat are the sticks you are using?
ОтветитьHow can I practise this without a drum kit at home
ОтветитьDamn im actually shocked once I started doing it
ОтветитьI'm a guitar player. I find these videos helpful to communicate with drummers. They are a different breed
Ответить1 2 bang 1 2 bang 1 2 ahhh fooked it😅
ОтветитьAwesome video the truth does hurt lol
ОтветитьI am literally on my first day of starting to learn drums and your lesson immediately gave me the ability to break the cycle of my right hand and foot following each other. Thank you! I have a lot to learn but so far this was the most frustrating thing!
ОтветитьHe said “Your independence sucks, but I’m gonna show you how to fix that” then proceeded to stunt on me with some amazing independence and playing 😭
ОтветитьYou had me at the conversation with the snare, stayed for the lesson!
ОтветитьWow that is the single most helpful thing i've ever seen. Within about 20 seconds my drumming improved by about 5% percent.
Ответитьhow would u practice doing ostinato on right hand, left hand snare ghost notes/accents, and kick in an jazz improv style?
ОтветитьROB,
THANKS FOR MAKING THE BEST I FORMATIVE VIDEOS OUT THERE.
I’m getting back into drumming after 35+ years off after drums got stolen and I quit everything including listening to music for years.
Now at 57 I’m
Hoping my four limb independence will come back like riding a bike again.
As someone who has never payed attention to drums at all… watching you play in the beginning all I can say is just… GAMN!!! that is INCREDIBLE! You make it look SO SMOOTH!!! 😅😅😅
ОтветитьBrilliant! That made it so much easier to grasp.
ОтветитьBruh the one thing that's discouraging me to play.... And you got the right information to keep me going... Thanks man subbed and like for sure!
Ответитьany chance you can release the sheet of that initial solo? thanks
ОтветитьCool approach, Rob Brown! Thanks for sharing your expertise.
ОтветитьThis is from 3 years ago im just seeing it and wow is this helpful bro just earned a sub❤ thank you
ОтветитьIt’s cool bc the first tip u gave u did naturally to teach myself. Wow. Good insight! Glad I’m on the right track!
ОтветитьLove the vibe brother. You Rock!! Thanks for being laid back and real ;)
ОтветитьShow how you are throwing in a double pedal..I struggle with it.
ОтветитьWoahhhhh!!!! I never thought I’d be able to this!! I got that first exercise down and it’s so exciting. It’s so interesting how when you broke down the 8th notes into 16…something in my brain just switched!
ОтветитьThis is great advice, thank you so much :) Envisioning hitting something on the upstroke was definitely a game changer
ОтветитьEasy to understand and effective! I don’t understand why a lot of other drummers make this lesson more complicated than it has to be. This is exactly what I needed.
ОтветитьI can't understand why its E and then e also AH and ah?
Ответитьthank you so much, the note above worked for me. 😄
ОтветитьI'm learning drums at 71 yrs old. But i've spent most of my life beating on everything around; sinks, dishes, etc. And i play bass and tuba, which i feel as tuned drum things. Rather than note things.
Drums are FUN!
Me and my 2 very young kids just started learning and your exercises are very helpful and explained well. You have a gift of teaching. Thank you.
ОтветитьI've only recently started playing and the first example is accurate hitting the high hat with the kick but I somehow fixed it. 😅 I'm not even sure how, but I was just practicing stuff and I could all of a sudden separate the movements and I was like "woah..." I'm still pretty fresh though 😆
ОтветитьAppreciate this video hugely, thanks man!!!
ОтветитьHi everybody, my name is Dusan, I'm a begginer and I suck
ОтветитьWhats beautiful is how the snare started screamining with overtone upon your voice. Grooves are KILL as well
ОтветитьBrother Rob your style is simple and yet so Great and so educational Thanks and God bless you young man: I will use your teachings to play a to my Church God willing
ОтветитьI've been struggling with this for years, and you made it so simple to get it right. Thanks, Rob. Your vids are amazing.
ОтветитьGreat tip here to play the off-beat in the sky. It helps me to control it better.
ОтветитьI played 30 years ago in high school and it was a problem for me then, and re-learning to play now, I am finding it is still a problem. Lucky for me I can still swing the sticks but, just like you said, my leg and arm want to sync up all the time. like top and bottom are good on their own. but when I try to mix more than 3 limbs I fall apart like a house of cards in a wind tunnel
