What a difference a decade makes. I watched this movie as a naive college kid when it released; failed to realize how well Vishal Bhardwaj tied Shakespeare in with the insurgency issue of Kashmir. I mean, I was so distracted by the soundtrack, especially the rock version of this song, I really didn't pay attention to the rest of the movie. When I recently watched it, I was able to grasp the full meaning of this movie. It reminded me that Bollywood is still capable of producing amazing movies and of Shahid Kapoor's range as an actor. Also, this version of the song really sends chills down your spine with the way the sound of the grave diggers shoveling the snow becomes part of the beat.

A person on the path of revenge, must first dig two graves........

Haider, the best adaptation of Hamlet I've ever watched, turns a decade old today. Anyone who has read the actual play would realise how acutely Vishal Bhardwaj captured, correlated, and incorporated all the aspects of the revenge tragedy of Hamlet in Haider, including the political backdrop. In a film that had an ensemble cast featuring veteran actors like the late Irrfan Khan, Narendra Jha, Tabu and KK Menon, it's Shahid Kapoor's acting that attracted my attention the most. This man's versatility in acting is altogether on a different level, even if one considers only 3 of his films, namely Jab We Met, Kabir Singh and Haider. ❤️

I remember back in college a newspaper article "Shahid Kapoor rejects Knight n Day remake (Bang Bang) for Haider. My friends said that he has a handsome face he should do commercial films, VB films are too dark. Though, I had a hunch that the Knight n Day remake will dishonour the original beautiful action comedy, which it definitely did, on the other side I also felt that may be dark, but VBs films have depth, hence I m glad that SK took that decision ❤ glad that Haider is recognised so much❤❤
