I love country jazz
ОтветитьPLEASE --can anyone help me? back in the mid 1970's i remember enjoying a record album of a guitarist named Lewis/Louis London. I couldnt say what genre it was but think maybe country jazz or Swing? Can anyone help me to find a way to get to his music. i get nothing in google search or wikipedia either. I cant be sure any facts i relay are positively correct. I am hoping some music knowledgeable person will know the answers. Thanks!!
Ответитьjust a guitar thru a clean amp ,a hell of a lot of practice, hard work & knowlege( inspiring) thanx!!
ОтветитьI love the playing of all these greats and a couple of them I had never heard of. Thanks!
ОтветитьWhere is Dusty Drawers, Ted Blueballs, Chappy Butts and Pancake Miller?
ОтветитьThe main problem with this presentation is that you have the most of the player just playing the heads of the tunes, not improvising (which would come later in the song). It is hard to judge their jazz abilities just from the heads of the tunes, though I know they have that ability. It would be nice to hear their solos instead of the heads.
ОтветитьSpongebob?
ОтветитьWhat about Cliff Gallup?
ОтветитьThanks for posting this collection.
ОтветитьGreat list! Thank you!
ОтветитьThat first one, George Barnes...played mostly in NY...and played on HUNDREDS!.. of hits!...Pop and country...
ОтветитьI'd MUCH RATHER hear guitar playing like in this video..for country tunes..than the 'they all sound alike'..sound Nashville does now...
ОтветитьBack when we had Myspace... Leon Rhodes was one of my 'top 10 friends'..and I was on his list as well!.. :) He was new to Myspace..when I first saw him..and so...told him how to add friends..post things and so on.. Really, Really!..Nice Guy!...
ОтветитьNo Danny Gatton? Wow
ОтветитьGreat Players, Thanks for the Vid!
ОтветитьSmooth,clear,fast, precise
ОтветитьA million thanks for this video. From France : Jo Luttringer
ОтветитьSo cool that you included Redd Volkaert!
He's a genius, and maybe he and Jim Campilongo are the only ones in this batch who are still playing today.
Catch him if you can. You won't be sorry.
He recently moved from Austin to Galax VA, so maybe he'll be doing more gigs on the East Coast.
Wow! What an amazing job Jim Campolongo does channeling Jimmy Bryant (and Speedy West) on "Billy's Bird"! What a great tune... very well done!
ОтветитьThank you for a great video. I knew about some of the guitar players, but learned about others I did not know. My favorites include: Lester "Junior" Barnard who played with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys; Eldon Shamblin who played with Bob Wills and Merle Haggard; and Willie Nelson who recorded an entire album of jazz music entitled, "Night and Day."
ОтветитьReal pickin'!
ОтветитьThank you. Well done. Music 101.
ОтветитьHad the pleasure of seeing and hearing the great Jimmy Campilongo in Brookfield Ct a little guitar workshop. Who would ever guess a guy from my hometown ( BROOKLYN NY) is such a monster country player. Plays jazz just as good !
ОтветитьThis is awesome, thanks!
ОтветитьInteresting every time I hear Les Paul I want more Paul
ОтветитьGreat Playing, Jim!
ОтветитьMore… the clips are only a tease.
ОтветитьSid Hudson should be mentioned. He was amazing on the telecaster.
ОтветитьThat was great- Pleasureable, and educational☺
ОтветитьGreat to see Jim Campilongo included. He’s a real innovator. Love his Awful Pretty, Pretty Awful.
ОтветитьGlad to see Jimmy Bryant on the list...so many dont know of him
ОтветитьLove to hear Andy Reiss play!
ОтветитьGreat ...would love to see guys like Roy Lanham or Speedy Haworth ...
ОтветитьAndy Reiss is incredible… and still currently plays w the “Time Jumpers” in Nashville… one of the greats!
ОтветитьLove hearing all these great guitar players! Funny, I used to hear all these guys before certain rockers came along with their drugs and fast licks. I'm tired of all the rockers but I still like hearing these guys
ОтветитьWonderful collection. I'd add Grady Martin.
ОтветитьHomer znd Jethros " Playing it Straight" album has some great jazz guitar
ОтветитьI really enjoyed this sampler, Ment Morris. Thank for uploading it.
ОтветитьI heard a guitar song every morning growing up in Oshawa, Ontario. The radio was tuned to CBC by my mother to catch Max Ferguson's show. The featured intro music was The Clarinet Polka played on guitar by George Barnes! It was years before I found out his name. What a picker!
ОтветитьPhil Baugh
ОтветитьI love southern fried Fusion !! So tastey!!
ОтветитьAnd you guys need to check out Clint Strong! He is incredible!
ОтветитьI need some of Hank Garlands coffee.
ОтветитьRecording of Jimmie Rivers was made at the 23 Club in Brisbane CA. That's the amazing Bobby Black on steel (and possibly Vance Terry as well?).
Jimmie was relatively unknown, but an amazing guitarist and steel player. This was from the album "Brisbane Bop", which is kind of a cult Western Swing classic recording!
Cool to see Andy Reiss here as well!! Current lead guitarist in The time Jumpers, and Redd Volkaart too!!
Funny, I never thought of George Barnes as country. He did a great cover of the Flintstones theme, though.
ОтветитьOk. Anyone PLEASE! One day I bought the 45 'Tempatation' by The Everly Brothers. Flipped it and was absolutely blown away by a lick on 'Stick With Me Baby'. So, for some 60 years now, I have been trying to find out who that was on guitar. I used to go around saying that they turned Chet Atkins loose but that wasn't Chet. It just couldn't have been! Decades later I wrote to Mel Tillis for the answer and lo and behold, I get mail that was signed by the man himself! Mr. Tillis claimed that it was Hank Garland and that if it wasn't it was Grady Martin. So, to Mel's chagrin I'm sure, (like, an I don't know answer directly Mel Tillis should have been good enough) I asked If he could find out. Never heard back.
The song was re-recorded with a lead guitar that was totally inferior to the original from 1961.
Once again I ask 'anyone PLEASE!'
Nice
ОтветитьGood selection for a 5 minute clip. THANKS! How about doing a Part 2 with some other country pickers.
ОтветитьSo nice to see Jim Campilongo show up on the list. Last but not least! A truly heart warming musician.
ОтветитьEnjoyed this, realize now. what an influence these cats had on so many of us guitarists.
