I have had a rat infestation in my house for some time that I can't get rid of. I see rats running along walls, etc. in various rooms and can hear them gnawing on things in adjacent rooms. It is amazing how they will just eat through plastic totes and cabinet walls if they smell food inside. They even ate their way into a multi-layered plastic ice chest. I have tried snap traps and sticky boards, and have caught rats in both. However, it seems that the rats become educated and learn to avoid them - even when baited with peanut butter and something tough like beef jerky. I am going to try your ideas, but with a slight twist. I will use the bacon grease scent to attract them to traps and bait, but instead of using peanut butter I will make a mix of crushed dry peanuts and baking soda, with the addition of Diatomaceous Earth (DE). For those who may be unfamiliar with DE, it is a powder sold as an insecticide that can be purchased in various quantities at stores like Home Depot. DE consists of the fossilized sharp broken glass-like silica particles of microscopic creatures called diatoms. These fossil shards feel soft and powdery to us, but to insects (and spiders and centipedes) they're a death sentence. These particles work their way into the insect's hard outer skeleton and puncture through to the inside, causing the creature to die of dehydration. DE is also sold as filter media for swimming pools and hot tubs. So along with bloating the little beasts with baking soda, I hope to cause severe internal bleeding by slicing up their digestive tracts by minute glass-like DE particles. The reason for using crushed peanuts is to keep a dry mixture with the dry DE powder.
ОтветитьAre you married? I'm looking for a guy who's this handy and sensible
ОтветитьTy my friend. Im gonna use your technique.
Ответить2nd question - what are you using for cornmeal - you said trying that in a comment below. I couldn't find the jiffy america's favorite cornbread mix with honey in it - in Canada. Anything you recommend? Have you tested if just regular cornmeal will do, with mix of 50% baking soda?
ОтветитьYou mention you wait till Oct because of ants. I saw more recent comment of yours on another video where you said "I have seen the same where I am so I put the bait in a second shallow container with about 1/4 inch of water and the ants will not cross the water." Does this solve your ant problem and let you install this in the summer, before October? I have the same ant problem and I'd rather get rid of them now before October? Will try this, but want to know your experience. I'm in Toronto Canada so we get snow like you. Where are you located Steve, also in Canada?
ОтветитьHave you tried baking soda and bacon grease?
ОтветитьThanks buddy for your great Ideas especially the bacon grease. I’ve been killing rats for about five years now with snap traps and I to wear gloves but rats are extremely intelligent and I have to keep changing up the bait bait as they seem to get wise to it. The bacon grease is new to me and I am excited to try it thank you and have a great day sir. Everyone stay safe and healthy. 😎🇺🇸
ОтветитьSubscribed. Cheers.
ОтветитьI'm gonna use these methods. Thanks for these.
ОтветитьBE KIND TO MICE AND RATS THEY ARE PEOPLE TOO CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY
Ответитьi have heard plaster of paris mixed with flour works but never heard baking soda before your past videos. Had rats totally decimate a 5lb bag of pizza flour in my kitchen cabinet so know they like that
Ответитьbaking soda? what is the purpose of that?
ОтветитьI still like the original. It’s been very productive for me. The size of the hole on the bucket seems large enough for chipmocks to get into - they’ve bee sniffing around my original but the hole is too small for them to fit. Just sayin’
ОтветитьThe master rat 🐀 killer 😂
ОтветитьI've been using using peanut butter reasonably successfully, but will add some bacon grease to the mix after watching this. And the PB and baking soda will be going out to try as well. Thanks for the tips.
ОтветитьSteve, peanut butter and baking soda? Does it really work?
Ответитьgood info , do you think it will work with the liebrals ? 🤣
ОтветитьWE USE THE 5 GLA WITH THE WATER AND A SPINNER ON TOP!
ОтветитьNice take on the trap. I have lot mice it seems to work well for ya. When you talk about squirrels could you put duct take over your mouth when you say you like them lol any thing that works is on my list
ОтветитьOur yorkie likes to kill mice and gopher’s !!
3 gophers to date
Mice uncounted
The master rat 🐀 killer 😂
ОтветитьThe Bears would love it!
ОтветитьI like the door opening idea. Here they could use it for a sun porch. And using that bacon grease will have them lined up to get in. Great work Steve and Cheers Buddy
ОтветитьYour right about the bacon! Every time its out I'm on it! 🤣
Thanks Steve✌
We also use no poison , If a cat or dog gets ahold of a dead varmint it can kill them . And a lot of vets say with the new poison companies are using vitamin K or anything they know of will not save them.
ОтветитьThanks for more tips on the vermin reduction.....I don’t know about them squirrels and raccoon....they are not friends with me....I’m just not that type a guy....now on to catching them pesky mouse.....CHEERS
ОтветитьThanks Steve, you’ve provided some solid, tested solutions and details for mice and rat control and I appreciate it - We got to the point were we stopped putting out bird seed during the summer months so the rats wouldn’t visit our yard - we have now resumed feeding birds again so I’m going keep Steves secret sauce and trap design in mind. Thanks as always and have a great day, cheers!
ОтветитьThe old vermin can’t resist the secret sauce isn’t any different than me trying to resist bacon Steve 😂 Great ideas Buddy!!
ОтветитьHow's she goin'? These look like a neat option for dealing with the vermin. In my opinion, you can never totally rid your place of vermin, but you sure can reduce the numbers. I use peanut butter for mice, voles and such like. So far I have not seen signs of rats around the camp, but squirrels, chipmunks, racoons and rabbits are very plentiful depending on the season. Thanks for the tips for these traps. Take care!!!
ОтветитьGood Morning Sir, you are a True YOU TUBE EXPERT ON CATCHING VARMINES 😇👍👌Keep up your OUTSTANDING video's Sir Cheers 🍻🍻
ОтветитьWe had mice at our old house. When I took own the suspended ceiling in the basement, there was mouse poop everywhere.
