In 2013 a friend an me bought two similar notebooks. The only difference were the gpus. He tool a gpu with 2GB VRAM and I Wenn with a 4GB model.
In the first 2 years everything was fine.
2015 at the release of The Witcher 3 everything changed. He had 15 FPS and I got 35 FPS. I can play some newer games in 2023.

.... so guys pls stop buying 4070ti...and safe your 7900XT or 7900XTX you guys will say thanks to me in 3 - 5 years.

-Owner of a 1080ti since 2017-

Get a 3x8 pin Rx 7900 XT and you get even closer to the 4080 rasterization performance! but at that point a 3x8 pin 7900 xt is like a Pulse or Reference model 7900 XTX

i dint know if this is a channel made to bash AMD or not but all I can say is that fir my 1at build im thinking about getting a 660xt paired with a 5600x CPU ( a REALLY BASIC BITCH BUILD LOL) but if I happen to find a 6800xt for a good price...then i'll get that .
and im willing to buy stock in amd just at the entry price of whatever its worth.

Hi, found your channel via the RDNA2/3 performance/fps per watt video, which was really good.

if you revisit performance per watt, could you do a game capped at 60fps / vsync (and with cards/settings that it can reach) so that you don't have the issue of performance "past" the sweet spot? (obviously this depends, but this way you have a defined target to reach, say Medium 1080p60 in a game with a built in benchmark. I like Returnal but CP2077 is kinda the standard)

(it will require more W than typical still presumably because the game will still try to hit 60fps 0.0000001% lows lol, I have some testing on my "channel")

also applicable to CPU fps per watt.

also I wish there was a single fan RTX 4070 idk why there were 200W single fan 1080/2070/3060Ti(only like 2) but no 4070. And there was a "mini" 1080Ti too, 250W.

Hi! Love your video! I've been thinking between 4070ti and 7900XT and went with the AMD card, because of basically bigger raw numbers i.e. VRAM, bus and such. Might replace my 5600x with 5800x3d maybe. So, uh, go team red! :)
Also, I might be wrong here, but AFAIK 7900XT is compared to 4070ti because it's marketed as it's competitor, and 4080's marketed competitor is 7900XTX. Also, even though OCing is kinda sorta incouraged by AMD, at it's stock performance 7900XT is closer to 4070ti, so i presume that's the reason people making exactley that kind of comparison, no?
P.S. sorry for bad english :)

I would get the XTX instead of the 4080 for less money...

For me it was hard to choose between 4070 Ti and 7900 XT, but I decided to go with Nvidia, since my previous card was also RTX and I loved DLSS and DLDSR features. AMD's FSR does not look as good as DLSS and they do not offer any alternative to DLDSR.
7900 XT is definitely a better 4K card, but even this one often requires the use of upscaling tech in modern games. And with the use of upscaling the difference between these cards shrinks and those additional GBs of VRAM makes less sence as well.

P. S. Overclocking GPUs usually provides the most impressive results at higher resolutions. My OCed 4070 Ti gain roughly ~10% more fps across a wide range of games (without any meaningful increase in power draw or temperatures). But in this case the gain is more even, probably because this card gains most of the performance improvement due to increased memory bandwidth.

I ended up skipping the XT and found an XTX for 800 bucks. Couldn't be happier.

I have had the XFX Merc 7900 XT since shortly after it launched. Couldn't buy a 7900 XTX for anywhere close to retail for several months. I detest Out of the Box. Everyone knows that for whatever reason AMD puts too much voltage at stock limiting performance. Yet, what Out of the Box was actually testing is how well the two companies have tuned the power performance of the two cards and not the capable performance of the cards. It was a pure hit job.

I also have a 4080 (Zotac Trinity) and a 7900 XTX (XFX Merc) now. I achieved better tuning than what you got, which if you were using the Reference model that would make sense. My best score graphics score on TSE was just over 15000. AsRock has an easy and great memory preset. I have found when both the XT and XTX are fully tuned the XTX is 14% faster but also 24 percent more expensive. Compared to a 6900XT I found it just shy of 4K gaming. I also tested all the cards on a old system (Ryzen 1600, 2933 DDR4, B450 MB, PCIE 3.0) to see which cards performed better with limited resources. The concept was can one get away with upgrading just the GPU. It was hit and miss depending on the game and the CPU dependency of the game. I can say that 4080 took a substantial hit. For example, in Riftbreaker the 7900 XTX would range between 110 and 130, XT between 100 and 120, 4080 between 80 and 110, and 6900 XT between upper 70s and upper 90s. Game is not easily benchmarkable because the scenes are dramatically variable.

I love the 7900 XT. It is a shame the reputation that it obtained and it seemed intentional to me.

Thank you for your video.

Just so you know TechPowerUp isn't the most accurate, as they only test the cards on release day and never check again which leaves rankings all messed up a year down the line. The RX 6700 on their site for example is slower then the RX 6650 according to them, since the RX 6650 released after it and had better drivers yet they put it in their database anyways.

Another example is how poorly rated the RX 5700 XT is which notoriously launched with issues but its actually much faster than the cards its inaccurately put behind still.

Be AMD. Abandon compute-oriented Vega due to lacking real-world performance in Vega 64 vs. GTX 1080/1080 Ti. Creates RDNA for a gaming-oriented architecture and modified Vega for CDNA for enterprise compute. This generation, AMD turns RDNA III into a compute monster on paper, and the power hungry RX 7900 XTX competes against the RTX 4080. AMD gave up on compute for gamers and scrambles back to compute for AI. What?

Daily Reminder that you can also overclock a 4080 and achieve similar gains percentage-wise..... I have a 4090 (AD102) and it can reach 3 GHz at 1.1V, as and example, AD103 can also scale similarly

how much did u get that 7900xt open box? There was one on my fb marketplace going for $600 but I just got a great deal on a evga 3080 ti for $500 with a year still on the warranty , and ill pass until 7900xtx is in the 700's or 4080s in a year or more. Most of the games I play are old and no amount of eyecandy is going to get me to fork over $1,200 for a gpu when theres less than a dozen AAA games that are worth it.

Two years in and Cyberpunk continues to be the one game where people point to the raytracing being worth the performance hit. Sometimes the juice just ain't worth the squeeze.

I'm not sure how much of the "fine wine" aging these cards will have, though there has been some differences with the latest drivers. They certainly made up a lot of ground in RT, but still behind and I have little need for RT. Maybe next gen as the game devs start to implement RT in better ways, especially if we can move to Path Tracing (then watch as nVidia rebrand their cards to PTX, so the masses think they developed it). Unfortunately I think the AI boom will still be skewing the market and GPUs will be tweaked for the AI market. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that. Looking forward to your comparisons between RDNA 2 & 3. I think I'll be waiting a while with my RX6800XT before an upgrade though as I would want better options for a 4k monitor too.

The RTX 4080 only gets about 64 FPS at 4k in raster. 62.4 FPS on the RX 7900 XT is pretty close.

SO Why are you Comparing AMD Cards with RAY Tracing??? That would be like comparing Dodge and Ferrari. If you want to use RT, then you Buy Nvidia, period. Just like if you want or Need Ferrari speeds, you buy Ferrari not Dodge. I would like to see a Blind comparison with regular gamers, and See if they can tell the difference in the Mid end cards from AMD or Nvidia. When you can see the test result it is easy to say if one is better or equal, But what if the gamer didn't know what was in the PC, would they be in tears because their gaming sucks??? Or would they be saying I'm not playing anymore because my game pixels aren't as bright as what I remember??? The brand card I am use to can't be in this PC, What's Going on here?

Been waiting for the second part to this series! Pretty interesting findings, I didn’t realize how much of an improvement AMD made with the RT performance. I went with a 4080 this gen mostly because of the power efficiency. My case is SFF and being able to fit that level of performance into 9.5L is amazing. I can power limit the 4080 and pull somewhere around 280W and still compete with AMD’s best in the 7900XTX. I also managed to get the FE second hand for $1050 so it was pretty much a no brainer.
