SYMPTOMS OF A BAD STARTER

This help! Went out to start my truck this morning but just heard the starter gear spinning but not engaging or connecting to flywheel to spin the engine,

I've had to have my battery jumped off twice and it clicks when it won't start. When I have the battery jumped it starts with no problem. I had my battery tested and it tests good. But I've had that battery for at least 6 yrs, so Idk. How can you tell if it's the starter & not the battery?

So for my vespa when i go to start it i can just hear something spinning but nothing cranks. What does this mean?

i don't know if anyone needs to hear this but my toyota camry / lexus es330 .. starts and then once i drive somwhere and turn the car off ..if i return to soon the car won't always start again. there is no noise = the key is just sponge .. lights work etc but no crank no start ... i had someone tap the starter with a wrench and it started .. ALSO after it sits for an undetermined amount of time it cranks again .. 30 minutes or an hour ? it's very unpredictable and there is no real pattern to when it won't start .. it's when you least expect it .. its been doing it in heat / and now the winter !

Just removed my starter from my BMW 525i, not an easy task as I had to remove the intake, ;( Engine was hydrolocked with coolant in the # 3 cylinder (overheated and cylinder head cracked). Before I knew it, I cranked the engine and of course it was locked so now the starter just turns without engaging so I'm thinking the pinion gear stripped.

05 Silverado here! Most times my truck starts up fine, but every now and then she wants to have a tizzy and scare me. If I violently shake myself while holding the wheel it’ll start lmaooo

Dude a very important thing to do first is check the relay\fuse box ignition,then you can check the starter,then check the battery.dont forget the alternator.

My 2010 matrix began occasionally grinding for a second at start up. I suspected the starter, but I think you just verified it for me. Thanks.
