The Sniffer was a MISTAKE!

I hope a future update adds lighting to more things, like the torch flower and glow squids. They're working on lighting, getting closer.

Why can't they add a cool mob, like a kraken or crocodiles that drag you into the water, why it always gotta be some weird lame mob

The phantoms are pretty much Minecraft’s cliffracers, gosh golly! I haven’t been keeping up with the updates but it’s funny to see mistakes getting rehearsed like this nevertheless.

The first mob vote even if i got to vote, it would be the phantom less annoying than the others and i hate the allay

I have been on a big minecraft server for months now and still nobody has a sniffer. I think they are also annoying to find making them even worse

I play modded almost exclusively. Vanilla remains so far behind in most things.

The Rascal only lost because Sniffer voters pushed misinformation that it would only give you an iron pickaxe. I supported Rascal from day 1 and it's nice to see people are regretting voting for the Sniffer.

No. The new Blaze would’ve been the best choice. The idea that the Phantoms were the best out of all the ideas, compared to the new Blaze, is stupid. Having to constantly manage your sleep to avoid a monster that is in every single biome in the Overworld no matter what is so much worse than a single upgraded enemy you would only find in Nether Castles. Plus they’re just cool.

The problem with the sniffer is that it can be easily expanded on but mojang will never expand on it

I was under the impression that the sniffer was going to bring a lot more to the table.
It's a cute mob, but fell very short.

It's also wild that with every tiny update, someone can mod in all mobs without any issues. These bigger updates take SO LONG (and often split up). Don't get me wrong. I get that they basically have to port all of it to all versions of minecraft, that's why they have a studio to dedicate to this. But at the end of the day, it feels like its not getting all that much love. Just the occasional spit polish.

You have golem derangement syndrome, he'd have been a great little guy to display items as every world has a museum of some sort plus he had red stone potential, you crotch sniffers can't accept you're wrong even when you admit you're wrong

The crotch sniffer was always a bad choice, the golem allowing better display of items was a far better option but you lot were obsessed by the crotch sniffer and now we're stuck with a mob that doesn't fit into the minecraft lore at all and is totally useless

I love how the people making their own mods almost always make game additions that are so much better than the junk Mojang actually makes us. Take for example, the Panda. What is it good for? Practically nothing at all. Compare this to the Maid Mod where you can get 5+ different Japanese Maids that each have a different adorable look and can do things for you, like cook, set down torches, etc. One of my biggest peevs with games is when they make them overly tedious. Nobody likes doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Mojang. Fire your woke production staff and hire people who actually love Minecraft and are creative/talented.

There is a problem with the whole idea of voting for these mobs based on some arbitrary characteristic. The sniffer was chosen simply because it was advertised as the only way to get these new flowers. But Mojang could have simply added those flowers another way, they should never have been bound to this dull, half baked mob idea. Now we’re stuck with a boring mob that looks completely out of place in the world and doesn’t really provide any real function in the game aside from being some tedious barrier between players and a decorative flower.

The sniffer is by far the dullest mob ever added to Minecraft. Not just its farming process, but even its appearance is just agonizingly mediocre and painful to look at. They add nothing to the game, they’re just a dull, tedious extra barrier between players and a nice flower item. All that time spent on programming the sniffer should have been spent on something else.

I don’t think the mob vote should be structured the way it is. I think it should be more of a yes or no vote on each individual idea. The way it is, too many interesting ideas are gojng to waste just because they grouped some of them in the same vote and the losers never get to see the light of day.

Honestly im usually an esthetic over like qol, like i prefered the moobloom over the others, but i see that both are good options(as in enviornment and qol) i think they really need to just do a whole update adding all the lost contenders into the game(or some)

Everything you said was correct, but my take away from that isn't that the sniffer was a mistake. It's that the devs failed to deliver. Which, honestly, is a running theme. Phantoms were made to sound like a cool mob that would have an almost insanity-like effect for players, but in practice became an annoyance for everyone, whether or not they were involved. Glow squids were said to be, well... glowing, and some people thought it was implied that they would even have an effect of hypnotizing the player. Instead, they're just easy to see, and can make signs easy to see. The allay was the only mob that's ever not been implied to have more mechanics than were implied. Though, I suppose when armadillos get added, they'll also be exactly what it says on the tin...though I suspect that some people will wish that more tiers of armour than just the one that's probably all we're getting would be added. All in all, it feels like Mojang don't actually put all that much effort into the mob vote winners, and are just doing them out of an obligation to make the community feel involved.

I wanted the Rascal. It reminded me of Korok's in Breath of the Wild. A little reward and distraction from monotonous early game caving. From what I remember it wasn't strictly said to be only an enchanted iron pickaxe. Might have even given us other things albeit rarer chance, like golden apples or maybe even access to a haste potion.

I am convinced that the Rascal would have been developed to add a new type of pickaxe enchantment that you could obtain. I know they didn't say anything about that in the mob vote, but Mojang strongly trends towards adding one unique hook to any new item drop table.

To me the sniffer should have been some sort of Bush Monster that could grow berries or fruit on top of its already established features

Honestly, mob votes are often made with bad votes. See when we voted for US presidents since the 1910s.

I love how nobody even USES or tries to find any of the new mobs apart from Maybe glowsquid because of it's practical use.

mojang should do away with these votes and just do some real work for a change, like theres a huge missed oppertunity to add new tiers, heck even a magic system at this point

you are making the same mistake you blame everyone else for when the sniffer came out, assuming because of how it was presented that it would work exactly how you want it to. mojang would for sure change around its loot table, it wouldn’t exclusively drop enchanted pickaxes like you seem to think. and even if it did, to be honest, if they added the rascal there would still be a thousand videos like this one of people bitching about it and saying the sniffer would have been better. there is no right or wrong choice for any mob vote, despite how you want to present it. the real truth is that mojang had a great concept on their hands, and they dropped the ball on implementation
