The "you're playing it wrong" is a quote from a reddit post I cover in this video. I know you're not playing it at all. Neither am I.

The mechanic of the invisible stagger meter is present all the way back in ds1. The red dragon miniboss that makes the floor go away is easy to poise break with dual maces.

Adding stance was such a great idea. As you said, it made previously left out attacks to be valuable again. Aside from charged R2 and jumbs, some combat arts and spells are excellent at breaking poise as well, and I try to seize opening for them as much as I can.
Guard counter is definitely a favorite of mine. At last blocking went from passive stupid to an actual offensive tactic! (key is, again, to use it wisely. You'll waste endurance often if you block instead of dodge, and counter needs to be timed as to not get interreptutde but they're definitely worth it. I often blocked with just weapons to unleash them, and was so glad with the later patch that improve the guard of big weapons).
My only complaints would be the classical parry, who went into this new system pretty much unchanged and feels a bit laggging behind guard counter, especially against bosses. Still feels very satisfying to land that said (parrying Malenia was so much joy...)

Dodging a boss is extremely difficult, when the dodging ("rolling-away") starts at about HALF a second after I press the F-key (and that is on PC)... 🙄

Elden Ring is the worst game I have ever played.

I am so glad you said this. But I really wish people would stop calling the level/boss/enemy respawn model would go away. It was great in the 1980s quarter munching video game, but it isnt an RPG. The populatity of this kind of game is also why its boring. Its like viewing the tree instead of the forests. It is also why it is so like going to work. Combat is combat. Jumping back and forth with a tiny tine story is just like working at McDonalds flipping burgers. It isnt intersting that this order (enemy) has no pickles (jump attack back. Vs. Charge jump attack back) yawn. And respawning the same enemy just because I saved....in the real world.... is a cheap attempt to make. A 1p game seem like an mmorpg. Yawn. If you want to fight fight fight play moryal combat, but please don't pretend that walking from arena to arena isnt just a fighting game and DONT EVER claim this is an RPG. It isn't.

The game would be improved immensely by the existence of a visible poise bar. There are far too many humanoid bosses in the game that break the previously established rules of poise and easily give players the impression that poise isn't an actual stat or trait at all.

I started out the game mixing a lot of heavy attacks into my moveset but upon meeting the Crucible Knight as my first boss (who is famously impossible to stagger without very specific set-ups) I just came to the conclusion that poise simply didn't apply for bosses.

If you go back and watch streams from when the game was first released you'll notice a lot of streamers quickly take to steamrolling the game by dual-wielding two large weapons and heavy-jump attacking everything and there's a good reason for this - without a well-communicated poise system it's the only thing that reliably produces results/staggers. Without visual feedback on what charged attacks are actually doing there's no incentive for new players to use them.

Y’all didn’t use heavy attacks in dark souls? My standard play style for dark souls is big huge 2 handed weapon and only heavy attacks. Smashing through gods with max strength and no vitality one hit and I die. Maybe that’s just because bloodborne was my first soulsborne game.

As a person working on their own vision of their perfect game, I really like that From decided to create something bold, different and challenging, and then slowly but surely perfect the vision over a decade before dropping Elden Ring on the world and becoming one of the most successive games out there, especially in today's gaming landscape.
DS II is the closest to my heart even though it was criticized for being too different, I love how ER takes inspiration from every single souls title and refines them, sometimes going as far as introducing some much needed QoL changes to make the experience even better.. can't sing my praises enough, started on NYE and already put in 120 hours lmao, haven't even took the grand lift of Rold because I'm afraid I'll advance some quests too far (like how Radahn Festival starts as soon as you use the dectus medallion)

In today's gaming industry of copy paste games released annually, free to play / play to win environment, live service and the list goes on, From and by extension ER dared to be different and stand by certain values that are much appreciated and really, really can't sing my praises enough of how well put together everything really is (aside from the quests, really can't wrap my head around how someone should find certain quest milestones, like sure miyazaki, the way to make someone the true ruler of limgrave is to find some dead bird in the starting area)

Seems like they should've made the enemy posture bar visible. It wouldve made it easier in a way, but also wouldve made some players overly hasty as well, technically making it more difficult.

I didn't attempt Margit until I had Rock Sling and the levels from Greyoll / Night's Cavalry. I gave him 3 tries with the wolves, concluded all I needed was a tankier spirit, got Engwall, made him +2 and beat Margit on my next try. Didn't run into a real wall until Radahn (and I'm very overleveled by now thanks to The Bird and several stationary overworld bosses who are just begging for Poison Mist)). Meteor Boi doesn't care.

I know I'm very late to this video but I'd like to talk about an experience I had in elden ring when it first came out. I got to commander nial with a the sword of night and flame and a shield (this was literally a day after they nerfed the wepon) and commander nial kicked my ass soo bad and soo many times it really made me reconsider my entire build and playstyle. So I switched my wepon to the banished knight greatsword and decided to two hand it, use jump attacks and guard counter. I beat him first try and it made me look at every boss in a different way and it honestly made the game even more fun

i wonder if fromsoft planned all their previous games as a way to guide them to make their biggest masterpiece, that is Elden Ring. DS for the combat and exploration, bloodborne for aggressive gameplay and fearlessness and sekiro for the posture and forcing the player to adapt to the game to beat it.
