For anyone with disappearing textures when enabling nanite - Nanite still does not support textures with opacity masks or two sided textures.

I've tried to get nanite to work time after time and it still doesn't work even with the newest version. Every time I switch everything over to nanite it just removes all of the textures. I have no idea how to fix this

You have to hit APPLY after enabling nanite! The button "APPLY CHANGES"

Can i ask , do you advice to use nanite for everything even medium quality assets we get from store we change them to nanite inside unreal ?

Hi i am new to this when i tried it my grass/trees turned grey like the floor as if they had no materials, normals. Any idea why and how to fix it?

I get what you say about the gaming aspect with unreal. I’m a huge gamer myself.. but for me .. realistic cgi movies is my thing .. that’s where I can see the huge potential. I went down the rabbit hole of getting all these addons for unreal and I’m getting closer and closer to my goal.

What do you mean "nanite landscape"? Nanite doesn't make much sense for landscape, because landscape is already adaptive LOD. What exactly dp you mean by "nanite landscape"? High res landscape? That's where you should use virtual heightmaps. Yeah, you can use nanite rendering pipeline for landscape.

Finally Nanite is getting the recognition it deserves. I said it since the first appearance of the tech, this is actually bigger than Lumen imo because it has been researched a lot but never showed any sign of it making it out of the tech paper limbo (unlike RT lights that have had different iterations until now). Brian Karis has some crazy blog post from a bunch of years back. Carzy times.

What exactly is new here? We already can enable Nanite support for trees in UE5.0 if they don't use masked materials. Does this new version do support materials with transparency? That would be a game changer.

How is performance when you have a bunch of that? Foliage is one of the trickiest parts in a game optimization, which is why it's often ugly, it's generally better for the dev to stick to minimal LOD for plants. Would Nanite help for that?

Couldn't make this work with UE5.0.2. I activated SM6 with or without SM5 checked to no avail. The materials turn grey when nanite is turned on. Tried that with the Megascans trees and Northeastern US Plants and Ecosystems packs on a blank 3D project. Well, I guess I'll have to either wait for 5.1 to hit the launcher or compile the whole thing by myself.

nanite don't work with masked or translucid material, is not directly tree or grass, is just almost all grass/trees have masked or translucent material.
But your trees have 3d foliage, not masked texture, so they are nanite with 5.0, not only for 5.1 '_' !
You can make nanite almost everything, like grass, juste need to make 3D real grass, not square with grass translucent texture x).

Probably over 20 years we will have devs making a '2020-style' retro game where they coded in a LOD system to create the pop-in effect, because of the current engines not having LOD's anymore. Crazy.

While this is great, you can not just convert any foliage to the system. Nanite has always worked with poly meshes. Most trees use a material that approximates leaves with a masked method that still can not be Nanite.

Very exciting, but we haven't had as much luck with all of our foliage in 5.1. Some of ours are looking much worse in LOD 0 than 5.0, and we only have a few that look usable after zooming out. I still feel like we need to use imposters so that we actually have control of how each LOD is represented.
