Even with a beamer, racing is a real good experience. Online even better. When you know everyone is using a wheel.

Hi, It is lost on me. does not feel real at all. The generated cars can out brake you and turn a tighter line while I just go off the track, it is like my tires have 10 pounds too much air in them. I would not buy one... thanks

Well I'm planning to do some karting soon at local tracks at malls in rentals. So I'll have a look and see how it translates from a low end wheel to the actual thing.i can say from driving my car irl vs some hatchbacks in AC they do feel remarkably similar and easy to control. Even learned that i can take a lot of corners near the speed limit with little to no understeer. So for the time being i can also say that a sim translates very well into real life racing.

I sim race for fun. I have triple screens and a VR headset. The VR is great for rally and drift where you want to always be watching the corner while.sideways, and I can actually complete a rally segment in Dirt Rally 2.0 but normally crash when I use triples. I only had iRacing for a 3 month trial, and realized I didn't have time to dedicate to a.paid service, so I just normally load up Asset to Corsa since there are so many mods for it, and just have fun.

As close as sim racing is and will continue to be to real life racing you’ll never be able to reproduce the feeling of pushing the limits to the point where you know you could get seriously hurt if you lose control, how you respond to fear and risk taking in the real world is something i don’t think you can teach i think its something inherently in you which is why there are loads of great sim racers who could never become proper racing drivers.

I am an amateur sim driver. I have tried just about every game there is, but I would like to know from some experts, that have real racing experience which is the best sim, except iracing, that I currently don't want to get into and pay monthly. I think that rFactor 2 is the best, but I would love some of your thoughts. I also think that the original Assetto Corsa is more difficult than real life. I am looking forward to some opinions! Thanks!

Once I tried VR I was blown away. I almost got wet eyes. Sitting in an F1 car, driving it, would be my ultimate dream, and when I put on the VR, i felt that. That how immersive VR is, and once being immersed, too, I went faster as well.

As someone coming from the oval racing world, proof that sim racers can be great real world racers is already abundant. William Byron, NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion and current NASCAR Cuop Series win leader and points leader in 2023 started as an iRacer. Ty Majeski started in iRacing, became the #1 driver in all of Super Late Model racing in the real world, and now has multiple NASCAR Truck Series wins. And let's not forget the fact that Lucas Blakeley beat Valterri Bottas at the Race of Champions this past January and beat SEBASTIAN VETTEL in 2022... I think that's all that really needs to be said about sim racers becoming real world drivers...

@thureintun1687 - 08.07.2023 10:28

not realistic at all
Simple.

No racing sim is perfect until we have achievez brain -machine network technology where we could literally plug our brain via back of our skull to a quantum machine which literally created "actual life like seeing, feeling, breathing, touching, existing simulation" off of it

Our brain make up everything including that "sense of self" afterall (hence i can 99.99% sure death= literal end of things* for you* as a you cuz you is created upon birth when bundling with a brain. so when brain depleted oxygen, and die, then you cease to exist or feel or see or know or think there is supposed thing called self cuz that is only possible with brain working

Scary huh? Yes, life is one chance. So live it

Note: don't forget every single Homo sapiens are intelligent enough to know as much as you are, so please don't act out on the urge just because you know there is thing called the end of all in the end, cuz everyone of us is as real as you are. I think "value" and "respect" should be key here But the fact that there is the actual end, make all social norm crumble though. I bet it's better not to let people know the truth 🤷🏻

The only thing I think is really missing is the risk analysis in the real world is "am I willing to chance dying by taking that gap" vs. Sims only risking loss of position. I don't think that precludes their validity, but that's such a crucial part of the assessment that isn't there in sim.

to me is 100% clear that a real world fast driver will be also a fast sim racer....
but no it doesnt go bothways , it should but it doesnt just because of one signle factor to me theorically an incredibly fast sim driver could also and should be a real fast driver, the skill is there, his mind works the same, and he has even more instant information of what is going on.....but there is just one thing.....that can and will change everything
FEAR of speed, can make him drive completely different....

Recently watched a vid where Hamilton doesn't care for sim. But Max loves it.

No you can't duplicate the feel of the G Force and the car. However you can practice everything else.

That said... come race day. Sim participants have an edge. Everything except for the car feel has become muscle memory, and on the track racers battle the car feel and the field. Vs. Trying to battle the overall of racing.

Sim practice is an edge.

I started sim racing before I got my license. I had a lot of experience in real life since I was a kart driver. In my first lesson when I was at driving school I already knew how to drive. Sim racing its not the same as real life. But you can learn a lot from it

Since I started sim racing a few years ago it honestly makes my 1986 fiat x19 way more fun to drive. I am so much more in touch with the car now. The only difference is you don't feel the roll and give on a sim like a real car. The wheel feels very similar though. Also I have way more fun driving the rwd in the rain now because I know what the car will do

No it's never the same, because you drive in a sim knowing nothing really is going to happen if you crash, versus in real life.

Depending of what you call a sim racing game. Grand Turismo is not quite there. I'm not sure about todays best sims - may be thats BeamNG. There is an old sim calling LiveForSpeed. If you have learned to drive good there, you will be drivin good a real car.

you know is RF2, nd not beacuse i like it or many like it, its : TIRE MODEL, FORCE FEED BACK , SETUPS, VARIABLES, FEELING ETC ETC , its not only a matter of good competition system ( iracing is the leader right there ) its a matter of realism and results, from that professional point oif view RF2 is the one and only, after RF2 you will have a solid battle between RaceRoom, ACC AC iracing and AM2.
