An Unnecessarily Thorough Nostalgic Deep Dive Into Sylvanian Families [Calico Critters]

Noo the ponies and the giraffes are some of my favorites! But the Buckley deer and calico cats are also some of my faves. You’d be surprised, those frogs are very sought after and super expensive second hand! Most non-collectors think they’re horribly creepy but some collectors are praised for owning them - especially the yellow ones hahaha. How do you feel about the new fennec foxes, penguins, flora lop rabbits and the new seals that were released recently?

Oh my gosh that Bullrish frog family looks so cute! It reminds me of the Sanrio character Keroppi! I’ve always adored him. I want these guys now. Thank you for informing me of their existence!

I only discovered Sylvanian families around 2016 via the subversive ForestFr1ends account. Seeing how expressive they were I bought one set (Babies Ride and Play) out of curiosity the following year. As a guy in his late 50s I couldn't then explain why, but never mind. Opening an eBay account in 2018 may have been a mistake as I started collecting nautical themed Sylvanians (supposedly to help promote my shanty singing group). Canal boat. Pleasure boat. Seabreeze rabbits. Motley Crew. Captain Seadog. But then I succumbed to the Dappledawns and thereafter it got out of hand! Now I have hundreds of these fuzzies and regularly write stories about them on my blog, with numerous intertwining plot lines about their lives in their village. Maybe it's because they point towards an idealised lifestyle, a happy and loving community - an escape from reality.

My favourite is the Butterglove rabbit family. Although duplicates mean they have increased in number to become my largest extended family, family tree well-documented of course!

I'm not keen on the new hairy horse range either. I haven't bought the frogs. I didn't like them at first but don't mind them now. However their price on the secondhand market dissuades me from buying them; I don't like them that much.

I've long since gotten rid of all of my childhood toys... Except calico critters! I've got a sizable basket full of them and they still captivate me every time I pull em out. The Van Dyke Otter family is my favorite and one of my first 😊

I remember seeing tv ads about them when i was younger, but my mom thought i was too old to get new toys, now i have my own money and i’ve been collecting them for over a year (:<

My first ever Sylvanian family toy was the Sheep Baby who I adored (I remember my parents buying me him in a toy shop closing down sale in around 2006, there was a cradle and bottle enclosed). I was obsessed and for Xmas was bought a kitten with a pink dress on a train, and a relative bought me a vintage bundle (owl, goat, and hedgehog family, a cottage hospital and a very basic house). Your video gave me throwback tingles! Thank you!!!

Aldi is selling these currently. Calico Critters/Sylvanian Families are super cute. I feel like I may have gotten a set????? But if I did it was either a hand-me-down or my grandfather got it, like I feel like I had a set but cannot state which one so maybe it was just me really wishing to have some????.
The tree fellows are scary looking to me 0.0 their eyes and coloring are upsetting to me

This brings so much emotions to me because I remember going to the department store and just staring in amazement at the displays when I was a kid. When I was interested in them, my family couldn’t afford them. It’s too bad I lost interest when our family’s financial condition improved — but they still feel like part of my childhood somehow.
