Why can't I type japanese full stop? There's a button with a comma and a fullstop, but it only ever types a comma or elispes.

So I have both the english and the spanish keyboard on the spacebar swipe, just how I had it on my previous phone. But how do I prevent spanish words from appearing when I am using the english keyboard?
