I believe Nostradamus's writings were vague enough that sooner or later some event would occur and a verse could be said to have predicted it.

Perhaps Nostradamus had intuitive insight into trends common to human history. Certain happenings, such as cities catching fire, repeat. Many people WANT to believe in the esoteric, so they pin events on Nostradamus' prophesies. This doesn't mean that he didn't have insight.
