Good video, is it possible to lock up air targets with HARM?

looks like DCS is still modeling the radar emissions a few feet above the actual radar dish, which is why the missiles behave the way they do. this has been a problem since 1.2

@Spudknocker where did you get the hornet skin from ?

How exactly are you supposed to know when you're close enough to fire?

I'm waiting for HARM, TWS and TPOD before I consider this module complete enough to buy. I tried it in the free week and just as expected, flying it is like flying an arcade game due to the fly by wire system - so it's the weapon systems that make or break the module

Love your vids but A-G just reminds me of the non existent splash damage. As much as I love about DCS this is a ridiculous failure of the sim. Is anybody aware of any plans to correct the issue?

Read that book "Magnum" had a lot of good info. Another book is called "Viper Pilot" by Dan Hampton. He was a Weasel pilot in the F-16CJ and flew with the F-4Gs as hunter killers in both Iraq wars. He also has another book called Hunter/Killers that describes missions in Vietnam. Love the videos Spud.

Are they impact missiles? I thought they did a “shotgun blast” above the target, or maybe that was the shrike/standard?

Hey man great vid. Have you by any chance encountered a harm going rogue ? as in you lock on to a radar, but the missile decides to go absolutelly no where. and btw, I noticed that SA page has now stuff in it, though I have no idea how to use it

I did not put the long dash line with box target in the hud and Locked up two dashes on the radar screen like a air to air normal fight....then I magnum....lock another ...magnum...both I followed with missile follow key mapped ....both hits. But the advantage of putting it in the HUD......would be to cycle through the boxes correct?

Seems pretty shit to be honest. If it's that hard to hit anything and the AI aren't going to turn off their radars, SEAD is going to be pretty ineffective.

Ummm I couldn't get to the SP Mode part. I guess I am missing out something or you didn't cover the procedure to get to SP Mode. I still couldn't get my HARM locked to radar emits. Just because I can't get to SP mode, or get my HARM to standby mode. Something is missing.

how did you make your HSI so easy to read with the map up?

I’m having this problem where sometimes my game just freezes mid game sometimes right when I load in and all I can do is move my cursor and I can hear my jet. Then about 3-5 min later it says Dcs is not responding. I don’t know that much about computers and what u could do to fix that so I was hoping maybe you might have some ideas. Btw I’m not nearly close to max settings

Hi Spud, so I just watched this tutorial and when I select HARM, I don't see any of the lines in the HUD that displays the general direction of the RDR threat. Have I missed some setting that will allow these lines to be displayed? NOTE I have only installed DCS Open Beta yesterday, as been using Stable branch up to this point.

Excellent vid as always, more realistic that we get some fails, as per the magnum book, not all missiles even lit up off the rail. That must be a real “deary me” moment. (Famous Scottish football commentators translation of a players reaction, where no lip reading skill needed to see, he was NOT saying that! Lol) these failures just make it more realistic.

Why does my RWR not display any targets. I was near a SAM but it didn’t pick it up

What is your PC setup for DCS? Your game seems to be so plain and stable on (probably?) max settings while my GTX 1080 and i7-4790k supported by 16 GB of RAM can't keep 60 FPS :/

With the master arm on, when you get locked, does the harm automatically lock up the radar that is locking you?

Firing HARM's at SAM Radars is rather cathartic after having been shot down so many times by SAM's and only having some bad words to fire back at them!
