Can i ask a silly newbie question. What do you use to record and how come you can't hear the drone? I want to track and record some hill walking, so what would be the best and cheapest way to do this with my mini 4 pro?

Still wonder when DJI will start integrating AI into their "Autopilot". Would make everything so much better, decision making, etc

Is it possible to leave controller on shore after take off and acquiring home point - then use active track over water for windsurfing , kite boarding , e-foiling ?? ** I would plan on setting return home to 30% battery life. Controller distance from drone being 1/4 mile or less :)

Hope this doesn't get lost in the amount of comments, but where are you recording your audio to? Phone? GoPro? (though I didnt see a gopro)

Frankly I'm concerned with full obstacle avoidance tech they are saying it does while seeing those crashes! I'll wait with buy until they will root out all those bugs...

sense the obstacle sensors are just really cameras they should somehow program the main camera as an additional obstacle avoidance sensor.

I don't know whether it's due to the upload or the original recording, but the 4k recording looks like it's not even 720p. Terrible compression artifacts all around.

Thank you for your review, a while ago I was looking for a video of tests like the ones you did. With speed tracking and some not so complicated obstacles, but the drone cannot avoid them well and it is noticeable that it hesitates when there is just a little difficulty. At least for me it doesn't work for me, I find it slow when making decisions. I also find that the maximum speed (quite low) that it reaches compared to the air or mavic is too noticeable.

I wish they would make the tracking processing power faster. The drone is capable enough but the object tracking is crap. I MTB and the mini 3 pro was garbage on switch backs. It would lose us all the time. It's sluggish and lethargic at high speeds. This looks the same.

Find me a drone that keeps up to fast MTB downhill and I'll throw good money at it

It's absolutely remarkable that DJI has evolved their camera drones that much in only a few short years. When professionals were discussing the DJI mini when it first came out, no one imagined it would become this good. It wasn't even considered possible. The mini 4 pro represents an incredible technological achievement.

The drone not recognizing small branches isn't that surprising as every drone struggles with that. But what I do find weird, and I'm seeing this ocassionally in multiple tracking test video's, is the fact that the drone sometimes feels the need to rise up way too much while it should actually go low. This caused some of the crashes in your video. Also, I think it has problems to make short turns when it's speed is too high. That tree it hit when doing parallell tracking should not have been a problem as it was clearly avoidable, but the drone chose to do something weird.

I guess most of these things can be fixed with firmware updates. Let's not forget that the drone has been out for just a week. I'm sure it will get better and better with every firmware update. It's already doing a way better job with regard to tracking than it's big and more expensive brothers, the Air 3 and Mavic 3.

My dad had a Staaker drone that used a wristband to both follow objects and record audio- e.g. the audio became part of the footage by default. It didn't have object sensing capabilities, and long story short, it crashed into a tree as he was recording a video. It's nice to see advancements in the general industry- even if not every drone has every advantage(yet?).

DJI should, if you lost the tracking signal, track the controller and if the tracking Person is seeing, to lock in again.

So many iterations of DJI drones and active tracking still sucks. Any improvements since 2018? It doesn't feel like. Deal breaker.
