I've spent a year working in Belgium, Gent and was absorbing Flemish dialect. When visited Rotterdam I could tell the pronunciation is so different. That version of Dutch sounds way harder, thicker... G for example is extremely ghhhh sound in Rotterdam and "r" is very soft as in American English. Gent people sounds more as French for me non Dutch speaker, in the way how they accent words

Alsof we in Nederland niet elke 10 km een ander dialect hebben... Hou op hoor. Domme Belgen. Chapeau voor mensen die Nederlands praten, ik kan het niet, terwijl ze Nederlands praat xD. Er is geen Nederlander die geen Vlaming verstaat... In welk dialect ook.

I am so happy that I watched this video only now, 1 year after I started to learn Dutch and after I watched almost all other videos on this channel. It's so hard to understand Flemish!! I felt some people in this video speak absolutely another language :) But Nout, for instance, speaks absolutely normally (thanks for it :)). So, thanks for this video, it's super cool to hear the difference!

Dutch is just one of the most beautiful languages in the world. It has so much possibilites to be spoken, yes there are rules but i think it’s really funny how Flemish is Dutch but then as a drunkard in some way. For me i couldn’t speak Flemish at all but understand it all the way, since i live in the south of the Netherlands. And also, slabbetje is a word we use in the Netherlands also, at least where i was born

With my notions of dutch, batavian dutch and flemish dutch is like urugayan spanish and argentinian spanish.
Flemish in phonetic is very frenchized, musical, tonal phonetically explaining plus regional dialects of Belgium, very neolatine in speech sound.
On the other side batavian dutch on Netherlands is loud and clear, fast, pratical, vocalic and strong, englished, frisianized, phonetically more germanic plus regional dialects on Netherlands.
The idiom is the same dutch, the slangs, proverbs, tales, dialects are very disctintives, different on each province that you count inside of 2 countries. The use and the variations of dutch in two nations are differents.🤙🤙🤙🤙🍻🍻🍻🫂🫂🫂🫂

What I see in the comment section:
Flemish sounds:
• Scandinavian
• like it has french influences
• Eastern European
• like Afrikaans
• dutch with something a little Spanish pronunciation

It is funny, because dutch is often more described like:
• Dronken english man trying to speak german
• An American with the most american accent trying to speak german
• Just a weird mix of swedish, german and french

So the comparisons are totally different!

My previous comment in English...Vlaams or Flemish is very close to Afrikaans, we can listen to it and understand it totally and immediately, but Dutch is too difficult, cannot understand it by listening, can read it and understand most... Vlaams is almost native to Afrikaans, Dutch or Nederlands is not even close - there is a big difference!

Ek is Afrikaans van Suid-Afrika en al wat ek weet is dat ek Vlaams vlot verstaan en Nederlands is baie moeiliker - ek kan dit nie hoor ne verstaan nie - wel meestal lees, maar Vlaams is baaaaie nader aan Afrikaans...Ek kan dit onmiddellik verstaan...

As an Afrikaans-speaker, which is derived from Dutch from the Netherlands, I understand Flemish Dutch almost completely and much better than Dutch from the Netherlands. It's definitely the accent that makes the difference for me.

Haha ik moet wel lachen om die vrouw op het eind. Ik weet niet welke achterlijke mensen er meededen aan dat programma, maar wij gebruiken het woord 'slabbertje' zeker weten ook.

Daarnaast hebben wij in Nederland ook ontzettend veel dialecten. Natuurlijk hebben wij het ABN, wat ik ook spreek, maar ook hier is elk dialect elke 10 minuten weer anders.

Please include Afrikaans and German in your comparisons. I am an Afrikaans native speaker and can, without any effort understand Dutch and Flemish and about 75% German. Written, I understand German up to about 90%.

As an English speaker just listening to dutch you can pick up a a number of the words, thats spoken.

But soon as I see it written in dutch it's very surprising how much easier it is. To make the full sentences out. without to much trouble.

Had many great visits I love the place. And the people have always been friendly and outgoing to us brits. Same with Belgium 🇳🇱 🇬🇧 🇧🇪

The Netherlands and Flemish Belgium have been smart and entered into a language treaty to ensure that at least the very basis i.e. grammar and spelling of the Dutch language remains the same. Pity the Brits and Americans have not done that with their language, which keeps drifting apart .

Grappig dat veel Vlamen denken dat overal in Nederland ABN wordt gesproken, terwijl dit zeker niet het geval is. Er zijn er weinig die echt puur ABN spreken, en de lijst van dialecten die voor andere Nederlandstaligen niet te volgen zijn is enorm.

Our language are the same, there's only a minor difference
Flemish appears to be easier than Dutch. I don't have to read the subtitles because I understand what they say
Ons praat heeltemal dieselfde taal
