Randy, i was you once. I thought i wasn't a real programmer if i didnt code everything myself. I hated the feeling of game engines such as unity or unreal. They felt so bloated. Give Godot a go. Its super lightweight (50mb) but has everything you need. 2d and 3d and you can even use c++ with it. Im now a professional programmer and have been for many years and i can't sing the projects praise enough.

what font and ide do you use? it looks nice and im feeling like procrastinating by messing with my tools

Useful tip: always scale your project down to 1/3 of the complexity of your maximum mental ability (given by your IQ). The trap most devs fall into is trying to keep the project complexity at the edge of their mental capacity

Started game dev a year ago, but my smooth art brain only allows me to make art good. I found my very own randy but his code brain makes stuff overly complicated and round about ways, that my art brain can super easily take care of and his ridged brain keeps me from making 120 frame looping lava animations because SHADERS are a thing.
