The themes of Mr Morale and TPAB are very similar, except Mr Morale is more focused on therapy and self reflection. I’m glad Kendrick started going to therapy and he is one of the very few artists/rappers who openly admit to going to therapy. It takes a lot of balls to open up about past trauma and I’m glad he did that. Therapy is good. He’s one of a kind.

Those who criticised the final lyrics on The Blacker The Berry did not pay enough attention to GKMC - which is all a true story.

Second comment today but I love how the interviewer directs the conversation away from the mark where KDot is clearly feeling/becoming upset and hurt. (Blacker the berry moment). He could have definitely capitalized and exploited that vulnerability Kendrick was clearly falling into but instead, he drove the convo away from that and I think it’s definitely because he has mad respect for KD as a MAN and a leader and I feel he genuinely appreciates kendricks music and character. Love this snippet of the interview so much for those reasons mainly. Beautifully done. I hope they do another one (no dj Khalid voice…but fine whatever 😆🙄) soon. Love this so much!!!!

As a latino Blacker The Berry hits hards in the feelings. I understand where he is coming from and also want answers on what to do about the ongoing issue at hand. Should we all leave together as dust, as we came, or do we fight until the hatred spreads into our soul...

Not only is this one of the best rap track of all times, the 3rd verse is enough for Kendrick to gain maximal respect from me. After slamming perennial bigots and pointing out the racist background of his country, he has the intellectual honesty to put on the table themes like individual responsability and the obvious contradictions, moreso the hypocrisy of some activists rhetoric. Kendrick Lamar is everything but a victim. He’s a free thinker.

I'm Xhosa, I have Zulu friends down here is South Africa and we both belong to the Nguni People. On the third verse he mentions the tribal wars/civil wars. They were meant to be fighting the white man who was invading their lands yet ended up rubbing each other the wrong way.

Even closer to democratic South Africa in '94 there were politically and tribaly motivated fights and killings between the tribed down in KZN and JHB.

No historian but...

Kendrick looked at it from both angles. You can’t kill people you claim to have love for, and he’s also calling out the racial divide that still exists. He knows change starts from within, you can’t talk about others before making the change within yourself. Leading by example; a lot of us do a bunch of talking, and haven’t made a change within ourselves, dude was speaking from his own experiences, and just praying that will lead to change.

One man’s reflection of black on black violence does not equal the undermining of the historic oppression of an entire community, especially when the majority of the song is an incarnation of his rage towards institutionalization. Even on top of that, he's talking about his own experiences with gang violence. I guess media perception really has gotten “black and white” as to assume that his message was one-dimensional and assert the preachiness that's usually attributed to political and conscious rap.
