Just buy a router. It Costs just as much as the mold but you can make thousands of molds before the router bit wears out.

I've been googling for nearly an hour and scrolling through a gazillion of these comments...
I can't figure out what adhesive nylon stiffener you used.

What kind of finish do you apply to the final product to protect the leather, Smiths leather balm work? or something better as all the change or whatnot placed inside will be hard on the leather over time.

I used your method but the molds outer ring scarred up the leathers finish around the depth edge on the lower portion. I used a olive green Buttero, only removed the ring once to glue up the put back on for glue to dry. Is there a trick to avoid this?

8 ounce leather is an eighth of an inch thick. So that is the thickest you could use if there's an 1/8 inch gap on the mold.

Sir your hand work is meticulous. I would love to see you making two rectangles and assembling them with hinges. Black leather finish would make it look like a suitcase. With the bronze side edge hardware. I would recommend this strongly.

Just ordered the oval tray mold. Can I use a thinner leather for the inside of the tray and the thicker one for the outside without jeopardizing the integrity of the stiffness?

I have an idea for you. Use two pieces for the top side, do your french seam so the seam is exposed in the center of the finished product, maybe width wise. I'm not sure how it would mold but if you could pull that off you would have come up with tricky version of this wet mold.
Edit: Clarification.

I purchased a mold and some wicket and craig veg-tanned leather 8-10 oz. I cannot mold this leather all the way down on the mold. I soaked the leather for 30 plus minutes. The mold top will not go down more than about 1/2 inch. Am I doing something wrong?

A commonly used technique with contact cement is to: A) Put a thin coat on both sides and let it dry till tacky. B) Apply another coat on one or both sides, but DO NOT let it dry. C) Put the two sides together while the second coat of your contact cement is still wet. This allows you to reposition if necessary or, in this case, allows your sides to slip into place. D) Clamp till dry.

Naturally, this works best if one or both sides can breathe a little bit. So, it should work great with leather. So, I'm a little bit curious as to why I haven't seen any leather work videos use this technique. I mean, y'all practically live and die by contact cement.

Couldn’t you just sand down/plane the punch pad instead of replacing it. It looks like its got another 50 years of life left in it.

Standard C clamps can be made to work but one has to add a buffer layer between the metal and the mold. [say 1/8" ply scrap with maybe scrap leather glued to the bottom]. Still, I like your clamps ... fast and easy. My hobby budget is tight so need to cut corners when I can. Thank you for the video and the candor of your presentation.
