In San Diego, blockbuster quietly shuttered the locations when Netflix arrived…those locations in San Diego were sold by blockbuster executives to the US military to establish Sex Brothels throughout the city. If just one location went bad than it wouldnt be a coincidence but I noticed it one day and drive around to all of the blockbuster locations that were here when I was a kid. They are all brothels now.

At least anybody watching this has closure about what really happened. There’s only one business still renting DVDs but they’re not like running at the restore. In fact, you just go to the box and you rent through the box. I’m talking about Redbox. But even so you’re not very many people actually put much cash in there anyway most of the times are just paying with credit cards. But yeah, renting DVDs from stores like blockbuster and Hollywood videos and just any sort of video rentals is ancient now. I literally had a feeling that was going to be something in the future. I remember the episode of South Park where they talked about it. Involving where the blockbuster video store is compared to the hotel from the shining and Randy is the one that’s about to go insane. Anytime you witness Randy’s descent into complete total madness you start seeing ghosts of people renting movies just brilliant. But yeah, in about a year 2013 in both Edmonds in Lynnwood Washington those are the only places I ever knew a blockbuster video store ever existed. They soon started going under and that was it no more. The episode of South Park was spot on by that time. Yep all those blockbuster video store started going out of business. They didn’t even bother doing rentals in instead just said by any movie you want. And that was it no more blockbusters. The first time I ever did find out about a blockbuster still be an operational was in Bend Oregon. However, blockbuster wasn’t the only one in fact, Hollywood movies also had been in Bend Oregon. Of course this was back in 2015. I don’t know what’s become of Hollywood videos. But I know Bend organs blockbuster is still around. Yeah I feel like if blockbuster wanted to literally avoid all this problem. They should’ve done the online streaming before. But oh well too late it’s over.

I worked at the main warehouse for a few years when it was Sound Warehouse, a music store like Tower Records. They were just beginning to get into the VHS thing. That's where the blue and yellow began. It was just a family owned and operated place at the time.

Bit of trivia I guess.

You know Blockbuster could make a comeback if they focused on video game rentals mostly as video game rental is something that is lacking with a lot of companies like Nintendo.

By the time Netflix was just starting out, they had more than enough money and resources that they would've easily outrun Netflix in preparing for the future only if they had tried. Netflix wouldn't have been able to come out number 1 if BB had just once thought about innovating. And who knows if Netflix would be what it is today, because people already loved BB and the fact that they removed late fees, introduced video on demand and streaming would have only made them hold on to their stronghold. It was their ignorance that gave Netflix a clear straight path, and once Netflix did there was no turning back for BB. It was all over

In the Philippines, we have Philippines’ Blockbuster, Video City which is founded by VIVA Entertainment Inc., lead by Vic de Rosario but it was closed in 2015 because of piracy, torrent downloading and the rise of Netflix

blockbuster, yahoo, polaroid, blackberry all once juggernaut companies leading in their respective industries, but greed leads to myopia and the inability to adapt and grow while other companies like netflix, google, sony and iphone embrace change which fosters innovations, lets hope this companies embraces the rise of AI and refrain from making the same mistakes as their predecessors

I think if cook won and stayed at the company, blockbuster would have survived and thrived till this time. Because he was a software guy and knew the potential of the internet and would have innovated. Blockbuster faded away because it was run by the people who didn't knew how to innovate. One of the main edge blockbuster had that time which made it huge company to begin with was barcode technology which again was idea of cook because he was a software guy.

They were awesome in the late 90s and early 00s. I used to rent video games all of the time. Anyone remember when you had to wait 6 months for a new movie to hit Blockbuster? In the 90s it was 1 year!

However emerging technologies (Infleunces on operations) such as : cable companies.

Never asked their service, but one time in America I have been served by others in the clinic with a CD movie that I must see. Surprisingly, it was all about boops!?

I was stunned how dare they could even ask me to see it or to have it! It turns to be that was their regular bussiness, and have audiances!?

I did not want to insult that physician who did that, and I pretend that never seen it!

In reality, people got continuesely assaulted and insulted by what they were delivered if that was through them!? Knowingly their dirty buster bussiness is always mentioned with yakiness at TV news and shows!

the meteoric rise and availability of decent and ‘cheap’ bandwidth to the consumer was another massive factor why people could consume digital content at home.
The convenience factor seems to have replaced the joy of going to a movie rental store. Consumer’s repurpose that time spent in a similar way that working from home is now a reality. Sometimes impossible to tell the future. Look how the various physical media wars went. Betamax, VHS, Minidisk, CD, DVD, Blueray, Videodisk or even cassette and vinyl records

The economic downturn in 2008 also heavily contributed to their demise. Their dvd mail service was running well. But the recession killed it and the brick and mortar stores were too much overhead. It wasn't just Netflix. It was Netflix and a combo of factors

I find it sad in a way. Not neccessarily because rooting for Blockbuster to come up on top over another guy or something, but because it was a product of its time. Indeed, near the end where they 'Netflix-ed' a Blockbuster app, that's what likely would have eventually happened.

So I don't think people actually miss the Blockbuster STORES: I think they miss that era in time.
