God wanted to kill Gershom, Moses first son because he was not circumcised. Some translations insert Moses name as the "him" that should accurately be put in the sentence. Yahweh "sought" him (i.e. the son) can be interpreted that God caused a sickness to come over Gershom. This sickness would lead to Gershom's death thus cutting him off from the Chosen People. Zipporah knows about the covenant (being from the tribe whose descendants are from Abraham and Keturah) and realizes what is happening. To prevent her son from being cut off from the Hebrews she performs the circumcision. Interesting too is that in Exodus 4:23 (the verse just before the passage in question), God tells Moses that if Pharoah doesn't let his first born go (i.e. Israel), He will kill Pharoah's first born. I think this is in reference to the next passage where God will kill all the firstborn not under his protection. Hence, he went after Moses' son. God wanted Moses house in order before he went before Pharoah.

Been thinking about the circumcision for years, and I’ve gotta say I completely neglected this part with Jethro being the son of Midian, who was one of the sons of Abraham from Kethura.
Now it’s before me that I have to get circumcised because God has isolated me for more than 10 years already, with torment and sickness, which led me to read and to know my Bible cover to cover but obviously there are things I have overlooked, and God doesn’t overlook anything…
I know there is a day coming, maybe far in the future, but that day will come where men will be called to be circumcised literally in the flesh too, and not just in their hearts through the trauma of the crucifixion of Christ.
I’m not gonna lie, this might be the thing that convinced me I have to do it without delay…

99% of those who call themselves Christians do not understand covenant. They do not know if they are in covenant right now. Only those in covenant will not nlbe cut off.

Moses Broke the Circumcision Covenant Established with Abraham🩸 Genesis 17:9-27
📖
Exodus 4:24-26 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.
Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.
So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.

I can clear this up, this never happened. Read real Bible scholarship that has so much evidence of this fairy tale. Israel Finklestein , William Dever, Franchesca Stravaracapolu and many more real experts to educate yourself not someone trying to tell you what scripture means. If God wants you to know then why can it not be easily interpreted.

gosh reading the bible there is always something to learn, I sometimes feel guilty of not know everything missing a lot then I remember I am still learning ...wish this was taut in school when we were growing with young minds but am grateful not only for the word but God voice and touch in my life even though I don't know the Bible cover to cover ...and there are something's that I don't understand the holy spirit eventually leads me to the truth..

1. God commanded Moses to raise his staff towards the rock and pray to HIM(God) and water will flow out of it. Moses didn’t obey God’s command. Instead in his(Moses) anger, because the people of Israel were complaining, murmuring, nagging and insulting too much, he(Moses) struck the rock instead and water came gushing out of the rock. Moses’s disobedience to God’s command earned him his punishment of not reaching the land of Canaan and also His death. This is because when he(Moses) struck the rock instead of speaking to it, he stole in God’s glory. He striking the rock showed “God’s” people that all power and might belonged to Moses and not God. If Moses had obeyed and prayed to God for the water to flow out of the rock, again “God’s” people will know and will according all the honor and glory to God.
2. Moses had seen God on this earth when had spent 40 days and nights up on mount sinai. No one had ever seen the glory of God that up close. That made him invincible. The Bible states in his old age about 130 years he didn’t look weary. He was as energetic as a 30 year old man. The Bible states that his face shone with light so brightly, the people of Israel couldn’t look upon his face. That is the power of being in the presence of God will do to you. God had said he wouldn’t allow man to live very long on earth because of all the wickedness of man and so, HE(God) will kill him(Moses) himself.
Thank you and I hope this helped.
May HIS face shine upon you and you continue to meditate upon HIS word. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen

you should understand that nobody knows what happened with Moses , Joshua thought that Moses was burried somewhere hidden by God ( that's what his human nature thought and should not be taken as THE WORD OF GOD)
the truth is Moses was taken to heaven and this was before elijah . and the jews did not have such example as people being taken in the rapture since Enoch ,so ofcourse they did not understood the truth.
On the mount of Transfiguration there was Moses and Elijah , what were the odds of only Elijah being taken to heaven? ,they were both there because they were both being taken to heaven, because they belong to a different order.
Ask yourself ,why wasn't Enoch and Elijah on the mount instead of Moses? The bible gives you hints about these mysteries ,but you are the one who must unveil them .
This is the truth. Moses was taken to heaven without tasting death and nobody can confirm what happened with him after they all departed and left him ,he was alone. And God did something that nobody knew.
So you should not take the words of Joshua as gospel , the Holy Spirit did not even descend upon earth at that time , Joshua was not a man inspired by God but by his human nature to say that Moses died and was burried by God in a place where nobody know.

ANYTHING supernatural or spiritual that is taken from the bible is hearsay, feelings, beliefs, hopes, and tales of imaginations, and not proven with evidence. The bible is a book mostly written by men who never even met the people they wrote about (many years after). It is also heavily edited and censored by a church that had a power and politics agenda, eliminating around 14 books (the Apocrypha). In addition, there isn't just one Christian bible - there are at least three with different numbers of chapters. There exists no provable, fact-based evidence to support any of the supernatural (spiritual) events in it. Thus, it is pure human belief - a human emotion and dependent on as many human thoughts as there are humans. To believe without factual evidence is like saying a court case should be determined by only hearsay or a feeling. It's hard to think God wouldn't hold humans to a standard that they hold themselves.
