You forgot Mr bean
ОтветитьWhere are the Citroens? Traction Avant, DS, 2CV?
ОтветитьPerfect top 5... But and it's a big but Tesla like the iPhone is more a product of marketing and influences, unlike the other 4 that are iconic Purley because they actually changed the playing field. Maybe Tesla needs time to prove it is more let's see
ОтветитьYes please on part 2 and 3 etc.
ОтветитьI was hoping to see a AU Falcon on the list...
ОтветитьI swear the sound effects in the bloopers get better every time
ОтветитьThe VW beetle would never have been released to the people had it not been for an English Officer who was poking around in the bombed VW building looking for vehicles to be used by the Alies after the fall of Germany. He realised that he could get the Beetle production running again and so he took on the task alone.
He got the Germans organised, sorted out where to the funds from and practically saved VW.
This is well documented History.
The Defender, it was not inspired by the Jeep although the original Land Rover might have been. The Land stover Series 1 was defiantly vey similar but the Defender as it was renamed shortly before the Gulf war was based on the Range Rover and that was not based on the Jeep at all.
It's like saying the Tesla was based on the Morris Minor because they both have car bodys which is the only similarity!!!
Please add on your next one , the whole range Alfa Romeo 105 series. Which was a head of its time.
Cheers
I don't think the prius deserves second place, nor do I think the tesla deserves first place.
ОтветитьYea I’d like to see what else you guys have come up with.
Ответить2022 brz please!
ОтветитьPrius? Not sure about that one.
ОтветитьWould love to see more, if it isn't in the upcoming video would love to see mentions of the Audi Quattro on rally, Citroen DS, VW Golf GTI and definitely the MX-5
ОтветитьThe Beetle will last longer than any current Tesla model.
ОтветитьYes please part 2,3 & 4!
ОтветитьDefinitely keen to see more on this topic. I think the Citroen DS deserves a mention and think it could even jockey with the Model S for top spot. It was as innovative in '55 as the Model S was in 2012. Hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension, steering headlights, disc brakes (the first mass produced car ever to have them). And the DS held the world record for day 1 orders for more than 60 years until the Tesla Model 3.
ОтветитьIm going to throw the NA MX5 in for the next list. Not the first or even the best open sports car but the one that brought them back and maintained affordable, fun, open driving.
Another possibility is the original Range Rover ?
Thoughts on the Chrysler Crossfire as a reasonably priced future icon ?
ОтветитьYou've already reviewed one of the most iconic affordable cars: 1st-generation MX-5. Will be a future classic and is arguably already part of the way there. Same goes for the 1st-generation RX-7, but of course they'll need a bit more cash on hand to keep them going, and also the RX-8.
ОтветитьI've been thinking you should do a review of the original mini, but now I reckon you should also do one of the original Vdub beetle, and also the Combi van (which I was expecting to pop up on this list)
ОтветитьPart2, 3 , 4, 5 too many cars out there
ОтветитьOK its not sexy as such, but it has had a huge influence on the car market. Yes, I'm talking about Volvo 145/ 245 Estate (...and sort of 745 and 945 too)! Long before we had SUV's we had a car that could be both a large family car, but also used by electrcians/ plumbers/ painter's or as a mini-van in itself. The square design made a lot of people sigh, but it made the loading space gigantic and it is the only car I know that can actually call itself a TARDIS. It was for a long time the safest car on the road, and as long as you serviced it regularly, it could live to 300.000 to 400.000 miles. It's a bit like Defender drivers. Once a Defender, they will always drive a Defender. ...and the same goes for Volvo Estate people. They don't give a s**t about street-cred! Cool? No. Influencial? Yes. Iconic? Yes.
ОтветитьYes please, more parts to this series :)
ОтветитьThis was a brilliant idea! Oddly enough, I was thinking yesterday it would be a really interesting idea if you did this but for individual brands. Some classic BMWs, Audis and I think Mazda would have a few surprises. Keep up the awesome work!
ОтветитьPlease do follow ups
Ответить220k for a Tesla model s plaid?!? No thank you!!
ОтветитьMy first new car I bought in the mid 70s Datsun 180 b I loved it it handled unbelievably on gravel roads in WA
ОтветитьWould absolutely love to see more parts added to this list. You put these vids together so well. Bloody great idea. Watching has got me wondering if you may consider looking into the top 5 best/worst countries that manufacture cars? And which car tops the most unreliable from that country. After knowing how much research and time you put in for these vids, it may be worth considering when you look at where a car was built in terms of your decision making factors when purchasing a, new to you, car. You guys made me think, good on ya! 👍👏
ОтветитьGreat idea with a long list likely - available in Oz also narrows availability for the list - keep them coming :)
ОтветитьA very interesting list, loved it, yeah the prius is boring, yeah it's bland, but this was the first popular hybrid car, if it was not the prius it would have been another car.
I still remember watching top gear and they had a star on the couch, they where talking about his supercar collection and how he also bought a prius. It goes to show that even if you had all the money in the world you would still find a use for a prius.
A close to home car from me would be the Renault 12/Dacia 1300, the first peoples car in Romania. Also the russian Lada niva and 1500
Notifications on, looking forward for the next video.
Love the list
Ответить#'s 3, 4 & 5, can totally agree with.
And the fully electric Tesla, I can sort of understand.
But a Prius...... WTF??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️
If you wanted to add something that is iconic, different and potentially still affordable, what about something like a rotary powered Mazda?
How about parts 5,6 and 7 !!! and maybe 8 at a push !!!!
ОтветитьPretty sad the Landcruiser didnt get a mention. I purchased a cruiser for 3500 and have taken ur to the high country the corner country and the cape.....winning!
ОтветитьBirds like to invade your recording!
Please do more episodes like this, and I don’t think 4 parts going to be enough because many cars are iconic in their own way, hence should be celebrated.
Good list l do agree with it more please other parts would be great
ОтветитьMore, please 🙂
ОтветитьHad a 1500 Beatle in a Sandpacer body. Best fun eva. My first car, in '82. The 6 volt electrics were a pain in the arse though. It could go through metre deep mud.
ОтветитьWhat do Vegans and Prius drivers have in common? Will boast about their life choices, but nobody gives a 💩
Ответитьpart 2,3 and 4 please. Then we'll ask for 5 :D
ОтветитьI potentially think the Citroen DS should be on here. I'm pretty sure it was the first car with a crumple zone, first car to have headlights that would "look" around corners, still has one of the most advanced suspension systems ever made AND had a drag co-efficiency that wasn't matched my mainstream cars until the 80s. The steering wheel was designed to soften the blow of the drivers head in the event of a crash and the styling made pretty much every other car from the 50s seem redundant. I believe it was one of, if not the first production car to have disk breaks. The suspension was so good that you could drive it with only 3 wheels and it would still handle well. I personally have driven later Citroens where the ride so good that you can drive over a speed bump at 60kph and not feel anything AT ALL! I am a huge fan and eventually, one day, I'll own one!
ОтветитьI love this channel. It is very refreshing to see a motoring journalist correct the misunderstood history of Tesla. That said however, some correction can be made the Volkswagen Beetle's history.
The Beetle's design was very heavily "borrowed" from the Czech manufactured T77 and subsequent T97 models. In fact the designs were so similar that Tatra initiated civil proceedings against Porsche for his interpretation of the Tatra design.
Porsche saw little point in contesting Tatra's claims as he knew all too well that he could not win a civil case against them
and sought to settle Tatra's claim against him. This of course meant that Porsche had no choice but to bring the matter to the attention of Hitler. Hitler told Porsche not to worry about the claim and it would simply go away. Shortly after the Nazi's invaded Czechoslovakia and that was the end of that problem...for a little while.
Post war Tatra's claim was reinitiated and brought before a court. The court rightly found in favour of Tatra and ordered
what was now Volkswagen to pay Tatra something in the vicinity of Eleven million dollars, if my memory serves me correctly.
So there you have it. The most iconic German car ever built was a copy of a Czechoslovakian design. Not many people know that.
Miata Is Always The Answer :)
ОтветитьThe very first car I bought was a Datsun 200B for $2000, picked up on a 4 hour drive there and back, I remember driving back in a burgundy coloured 200B with the white vinyl top ,the 4 speed manual gear box, zero power steering and no ac just to name a few. That car will the most iconic in my heart.
ОтветитьGreat video. Would love to see part 2, 3,4 ...
ОтветитьNice from this point of view also some of the great and still in use in some countries iconic cars & affordable are:
Fiat 600
Lada 1500
Daewoo lanos
Jaguar XJS
Mercedes-Benz 380SL
Fiat 124 spider
BMW E3 (where they took the long grilles from on the new ugly m4)
Number 2 was a suprise curve ball, I was not expecting the Prius
ОтветитьI wish bought the porsche 928 back when it was 8K, now it's sitting around 28K minimum
ОтветитьAnother video is in. I love this channel.
