ОтветитьThank you Uncle Carey!
ОтветитьThanks for clarifying this. I have been thinking about building a home server from an older PC. I thought a home server might be a way to address access to certain media files on multiple systems. I have only five systems accessing data, so maybe a server might not necessarily be what I am looking for.
Any thoughts on a router with USB input on it? I have been thinking about getting one of those and connecting a storage drive to it. That would (in theory) be a way to centralize storage of the files I need to access from multiple machines. Would that setup serve my needs, or should I be thinking of other solutions? I really want to tidy up my file storage and eliminate the need to keep chasing files and wondering what was or was not updated.
Interesting, thanks Uncle C
ОтветитьI Think you missed a few things
1. Like you said a server serves and has a particular job to do versus your workstation that you sit at. it could be serving files on your network, could be a webserver. could be a active directory. servers on the internet also control things like dns. some small bushiness do use a pc as a server at least for some things like hosting quick books.
2. servers are built to be more reliable that have further testing. they are built to be compact as you will often have many in a rack.
I bought a Dell T30 server (which didn't have an OS preinstalled) on sale as a home computer. It was a pain to get Windows 10 on and get all the drivers for it as it's not supported by Dell, but I finally got it going and I'm happy with the results. It''s not something I'd recommend to just anyone, though.
ОтветитьVery informative. Nice.✌
