As a teenager I remember dissolving into this song. I feel it was probably in part to my feelings of helplessness. At that age I was totally aware of what was happening in my world but unable to have an affect in any substantial way. I never cuddled up with the needle but there were so many other means of escape in those days. I'm not saying I regret any of it. It makes me the person I'm happy to be today. But the music....WOW. Saw them twice. Dark Side of the Moon and Animals tours. 😅

Yikes, what I just posted ( “1 second”) after waking up from exhaustion and finishing it, is replete with typos I’d thought I’d corrected. No time now to edit. See you on tne dark side of the moon

There is a limit to what EVERYONE (ANYONE) can take, if circumstances are repeatedly AWFUL. THIS SONG IS A SOOTHING COMPANION WHILE ONE KEEPS “THE QUESTION” MULLING ABOUT. CAMUS, SARTRE, SHAKESPEARE. WHY PERSIST? Bc it’s hard to ensure we actually die? If this the concern, then whilst I’ve studied tne cases of
hunger strikers I’ve only ever personally done 2 weeks  with merely water and occasional table salt(NaCl) (now I’d treat myself to a bit of potassium I’m powdered form or simp.tK+ as a table sale (NCl substitute for persons told to cut down on alt; they taster the same to me). just do not consume anything but possibly electrolytes (maybe B vitamins in case of a change of heart or interference). It takes full on hunger strikers in real-world established past situations 40-75 days today when fairly young add well fed and healthy at the start of a plan they do expect will end in death (not always: some harbor hope of government capitulation to demands, others do plan to stop fasting if their body sends them signals it’s close to death). Many are harmed who wait but STOP, including g prolonged fasting — the body needs very little, though it IS HARMED iften permanent,y and serious.5 bt peolonged fasts with just one factor ot two to allow them too gwntiinally remain alive longer —. Eg 6 MONTHS for Turkish hunger strikers who added a tablespoon of sugar, or in ge erosion cases an apply every day and b vitamins to try to protect their brains and peripheral nervous system. Sone went as far as death, others stopped. THOSE WHO STOPPED OFTEN HAVE FOUND THEMSELVES WITH LASTING SERIOUS IMPAIRMENTS. THIS IS NOW  a RIGHT WIDELY RECOGNIZED in at least Europe, WITH MEDICAL SOCIETIES (national and international) urging tnat doctors respect the right to starve, particularly as a form of protest (it need not be a protest of some societal issue). Why am I going on about hunger strikes, in response to “Comfortably Numb”? I drafted a long near-screed (alas THIS TOO IS SO LONG IT SADLY THESE DAYS QUALIFIES AS “A Screed” violating social mores about not imposing on another entity/person’s server OR on the eyes of people perusing comments. AND I AM GETTING TYPOS galore… a polite reminder PERHAPS from YT, along with an occasional pale blue screen, likely from algorithms, written by nice people, nudging foolish having a meltdown at night to go to sleep, or at least for me to put a lid on it… ie be more concise and on point. If I have something or a lot tp say in which anyone might be interested AND it might be helpful dialogue to open, I should post actual CONTENT of my own which I have not done as yet. ANYHOW, I AM OR HAVE BEEN SUPER-PRIVATE, taught to subordinate my views or emotions of a nihilistic sort (my folks word to describe Pink Floyd, Nirvana, NIN/Trent Reznor, Led Zeppelin,…. Any “rock” except the Stones (good blues, all in fun, “ tongue in cheek” (?) with songs like “Sister Morphine” and “Sympathy for the Devil,” the parents thought were fun, skipping “their” generation’s “hippy-dippy” music entirely… good stuff, a lot of it, before and after “les Beatles”… I just “discovered” Crosby Stills Nash & Young, for example.). COMFORTABLY NUMB FEEEL PROFOUNDLY HONEST, with so much packed in… eg how can we (and do we?) understand one another beyond at most a gestalt (if that). Is life worth living? What’s the goal… a human species not so venal and instrumental in how it uses up not only artists, instead all of us (unless we ourselves start being the users and making maximum “use” of persons as property/ies, as things. Think of how ppl refer to well -remunerated footballers (note to Americans: I mean “soccer”). They are “sold”or “traded” (often at specified prices, they “can”decline except not really if they wish to continue working, or even love what they do then stocking supermarket shelves OR being a physician and playing in a minor and being on a “league” won’t satisfy the desire to play amongst their PEERS. Money isn’t everything. Yet so many human beings are so very venal they think it is everything. I COULD USE MORE MONEY FJD HUGE EXPENDITURES FEW FORESEE OR EVER NEED; open question of it was a mistake for me not to first amass the max amount I could. Losing my youth (which I lost yo other things s d workaholism yet even when wellpaid rumors always had it “we” (my peers) could earn far more in a related industry… but like 10x more. I was pleased to bury ny head in work after TOIGH LIFE I THI K IYS HEAKTHY FJR ME TI RE ALLL (not burly) but NOT to take out of my head in a shrinks office or journaling and - sensitive (pls believe me) “wallowing in” any awful incidents I’ve moved on from, ie those that I know HAPPENED, DO NOT DISCUSS BC TNEY SHOCK MOST PEOPLE. I FEEL STEONG FOR SURVIVING — WHEN I DO CONTEMPLATE THESE QUIETLY DURING SOME CELEBRATION ON A TRIUMPHANT DAY, I SAY TO MYSELF “no one should live through such things, be subjected to them in tne first leave, and I’m forever changed in serious ways such that I feel even now decades after those decades that “I should have died,” rather than live to later with triumph and happiness. Some things are that awful; there are fates worse than death… and we all do die eventually (plus when younger I had something similar to “athletes heart syndrome” lees ding to at least one brush with death that left me pain-free, very alert, and with a pulse incompatible with life…it picked up again as usual but It was underscored by doctors I “really did” almost die, causing them to prep to slice me open from rib cage to just above my gonads (I’ll leave my gender out; happens to both males and females, likely intersex folks etc… i M not aiming to address that current hot button one way or another. NOW I AM FEELING THIS NOSTALGIA FOR THIS SONG BECAUSE I FEEL IT APPLIES TO ME AGAIN DECADES AFTER I FIRST HEARD IT. It’s Shakespeare, Camus, and also epistemology (how can we know one another; can we; do we: how alone are we when we are surrounded by people we know, or alone). ON THIS SAME ALBUM ARE such related songs as “Money,” ” and “Time,” plus the “Dark Side of the Moon.” I wrote this late at night feeling overwhelmed by horrendous developments in the wider world and in my family/work/ personal life. I am usually private. Posting existential alienation (or grief?, despite the fact life can be beautiful) is not my style. However, even my life is being threatened, and who cares once it’s over. So “hello… wish you were here.” (PF, Wish You Were Here, ostensibly written about Sid.) ☮

Pink floyd is the kind of music. We're u can close your eyes and the music will transport u back to the 70s. Wearing those huge head phones. And your stereo system that took up the whole wall. I miss those times.

When I was a teenager back in the 1980s , I used to listen to Pink Floyd The Wall as I was going to sleep . It's funny how music can affect the human mind set . My nephew used to start screaming his head off and crying every time someone played country music . But if you played Metallica he would fall right asleep . Not sure I could sleep through Metallica . But I can definitely get a calming and soothing effect from listening to Pink Floyd .
